Its not pc to say this but the Irish coming from a white Christian heritage have more in common with the English culturally at least than say Somali Muslims. It would also be very un-pc to mention racial similarities since it doesn't exist apparently but some people are conscious of it.
Some of my best friends are white English people, I have huge amounts in common with them. I also met other foreigners in England I am very friendly with. But there are nationalities I do not bond with or like and they live in the England too. Overseas is a very broad term. I take people as I find them.

This is sick opportunist from these hooligans, intelligent hooligans admittedly. I will be happy if they don't get a seat and it will be one less extremist organisation to worry about.

The New World Order are an entirely different force to fight. They are having a big meeting next week in the Four Seasons in Dublin next week.

The add has been wrecking my head, archaic, outdated term.

    Love the station though.

Bear in mind we are often included as British on programmes such as BBC's "Coast" where Dun Aengus is featured in the title sequence.

I cannot really see the problem. There is no widely accepted alternative name to "The British Isles" for our archipelago. My Geography teacher's term "pretanic islands" has no traction. The nearest accepted alternative seems to be simply "the isles."

The Brits accept that the Irish sea divides us. I think we should just live with British isles as the accepted term. It does not diminish us in any way whatever

    +1

Genetically speaking, the irish are more British than the english are.

The english are largely descended from Anglo-Saxon settlers who came from north-west germany around the year 800, and drove the Britons west into Wales.

Adjectives describe nouns. I dont consider Ireland to be a british isle. The term itself originates in a language that i dont consider my own, and at a time when the vast majority of Ireland didnt speak it. Indeed the term came about as a political justification of English dominion of Ireland and as we were gradually then not so gradually forced to speak english the term came in with the language.

Just because we havent invented a different, not politically charged and possive, term doesnt mean we have to accept it as some form of neautral geographical term. And besides, it`s not my language anyway, and in my language we certainly dont use such a prejudiced term for these 2 islands
