Deaths like those mentioned in the OP will unfortunately become more prevalent now provision of NHS services has been outsourced to an increasing number of companies, many of whom offer or tender for services outside their fields of expertise, as such contracts are veritable licences to print money (as the G4S security scam was a massive hit for UK taxpayers).

One chief example being PPP scams during the bubble, where public money was used on construction projects like the M50, and the private operators were able to write off any losses and claim compensation from the government if they did not meet their expected profitability.

Naomi Klein referred to this process as 'hollowing out' of the state and its functions. At this stag there would appear to be precious little left to 'hollow out' in the UK and the most advanced example of this is the USA, where private mercenaries now fight wars while the army is reliant on sub contractors for accommodation and catering. The Private part of the partnership wants a Govt guarantee it can take to it's bank and finance the deal, knowing full well it can re-negotiate everything once the project starts.

The Public part wants to get re-elected and having a reputation for delivery on this scale attracts votes, if it not re-elected the first few years of the PPP will be very gentle but the hard yards will kick in just after an election.

Both sides of PPP will toy with the banks and extend and extend the loans on the never never, the key to everything is the Govt guarantee and when toerags like FF are involved, confetti time.
