That can be done on Network 2 right now. Who wants to spend 18 hours a day watching any TV station?

Imo TG4 does history according to the shinner publisher in the north. Other than that I enjoy the channel but I wish it would do literal translations instead of correct English.

I also think some people not a million miles from here are on tv/web 24/7.

TG4 is exactly what a Public Service Broadcaster should be providing. A few changes could be made to make it more accessable like having the programmes in English with Irish subtitles but overall it's fine. The station has it's own identity so putting it's programmes on RTE Two wouldn't work. There are plenty of other places in RTE where savings could be made.

Having its so-called identity is part of the problem. It is a station that puts out 18 hours a day every day of the week in a language that a tiny froction of the people use or even understand. It would be more effective and economical, instead of having a telecommunications apartheid, to have some good subtitled shows on Network 2.

Nice piece of furniture though. Remember when hi-fis were elegant? A plasma TV could never get converted into a drinks cabinet. Remember drinks cabinets?

When my grandmother was asked by an American visitor if our new radio was "hi-fi", she replied, "No; it's bought and paid-for cash."

For any of you guys that haven't changed over yet. The Great Satan Tesco has receivers for €39 each that'll do the job just fine.

I wonder how many of us admit to shopping at Tesco? Its doing a great trade in a town near me.

I bought a micro wave oven there. I didn't start at Tesco. I went into my local hardware store, they had some on sale. The shopkeeper looked me in the eye smiled like the honest man he is and declared the for sale ones were gone. I pointed to the one with the sign on it saying Xprice. He said he was minding it for its new owner, but I could have another one at a special price just for me of double the price of the one for sale.....I told him I would check.

I crossed the road and strolled to another local hardware store. I walked into the shop pointed to a microwave and asked the price. Its sold and he didn't have any more, he said. I told him I was going to Tesco.

I went to Tesco. It may be a great Satan but a greedy gombeen tool learned a lesson that if he's lucky may save his shop when others are closing around him.

It's a question of balancing value with community and service. The microwaves were made in another country, the shop assistants are local in both places. If the shopkeeper wants to compete he better provide the value and service that'll make dealing with him plausible.

There are a lot of local shops making a good effort and I don't mind paying a little extra to support them if possible. My local corner store is cheaper for things like briquettes than Tesco, cigarettes, newspapers are the same price and help keep up the turnover in these small shops. There's a lot to be said for variety.
