    Default Forgottenbooks.org

Site with lots of old books - free ebook versions or they also offer print editions from amazon.

Has anyone used this site? I was thinking of ordering some of their print editions of their books - books by James Connolly, Mitchel, Lalor etc

Has anyone bought books from them? Whats the quality like?

    Fine piece of prose.
If it has been found necessary to advert to the dark deeds of the papacy, it is from the conviction that the principles and spirit in which they originated in former ages are not extinct in the present day. In supplying books for the young, it may be well to make them the means of fortifying their minds against soul-destroying error, and of establishing them in those great doctrines in the defence of which their forefathers suffered and died.

I have to say it's a very impressive site, there's books on there that I've been looking for for ages. I think I'll order one of them in their paperback print edition.

I'll report back here on what it's like.

It is an interesting site. I wonder though if a lot of the titles are out of copyright and can be downloaded free of charge from sites like gutenberg.org?

I have an ebook reader all right, but I like to have it in physical form. Ebooks just aren't the same.

The books arrived today, they are facsimile copies of the ebooks they have - ie they include imperfections like library stamps etc. These are usually first editions. They are very well presented with attractive covers - they look very well next to one another on my shelf. Worthy additions to my "fenian library".

They are very good quality, decent paper etc. One of the books I got, 'Thomas Davis, Selections from His Prose and Poetry' is flawless, absolutely excellent. Very pleased.

The second is the collected works of of P.H Pearse. It isn't quite as good, a couple of pages are messed up a bit with regards to formatting, one or two titles of chapters, which are supposed to be on the middle of a blank page, are at the bottom instead. Bit disappointing, but the book is still very readable. This could have been known in advance had I thoroughly checked the ebook/pdf version they have available to download on their site. I'll do that before making any future purchases.

As for price, delivery included, I paid just under 30 Euro. (was around £20) Not the bargain of the century but I would have happily paid 15 Euro for each of the books in a shop - however I suspect they would have cost more than that if they were available.

So all in all, very pleased. They offer a great service, reprinting books which are very hard to find. I'm going to inquire if they have any intent on printing hardback versions. I generally prefer to get hardbacks as they are more durable and you don't get the unattractive creasing of the spine with use.

Thoroughly recommend them, just check the pdf version before purchasing the book.
