A victory of sorts for our thread on this ,they have now decided that they must stop politicians from hiring interns under this free labour programme.
However as reported in the Sunday Times they are still proposing to allow the Houses of the Oireachtas commission to hire these unemplyed interns and hand them over to our politicians which is the DSPs way of getting around the charge of abuse.
The issue here is simple when Joan announced this programme she stated that the intern had to have a real chance of getting a Job , as there is a public service embargo there is no chance of any intern getting a job with the House of the Oireachtas Commission as they are covered by the embargo ,these kids are used by our TDs to work as free labour spreading their spin for 9 months and then return to the dole .
furthermore with 30% of interns working for state bodies ,when will they stop this as they to are covered by the embargo and have no chance of getting a job

Do they get expenses ? I would not be surprised if these "interns" are sons and daughters, connected, who may not get paid, but whose parents can afford to buy them a good cv.

But perhaps if that is an unfair suspicion some interns might post here and put me straight.

what is very strange is that they the T.D s are breaking the rules of the scheme ,there has to be a job prospect at the end of the 6 or 9 months with the embargo there is none.

Do they have to give them a job or is it the prospect of a job? Big difference (sorry to be pedantic!). Wouldnt be surpriosed at the right doing this but would be shocked if any left leaning politicians took advantage of this slave scheme.
