Default Jack Straw given easy interview

On The Pat Kenny Show this morning, Jack Straw promoted his autobiography, Last Man Standing. I fully expected he would be challenged about his support for the illegal invasion of Iraq but he was given an easy time, probably because Pat Kenny was too lazy to have researched the topic or perhaps because he did not have an opinion of his own. Straw said he could have prevented English involvement in the invasion but he approved of it on the grounds that he guessed Saddam had weapons of mass destruction! There was also no mention of his release of Pinochet who was the subject of an extradition warrant from Spain because the dictator was in a wheelchair and his memory seemed poor!

Kenny probably thought that the invasion of Iraq was too little, too late.

    It was a pathetic interview.

It was another slack interview like the one he carried out last week with Reilly. Pat may be losing interest in the job. Whatever about his political persuasion, Kenny was always a smart enough cookie. Lately he's just been going through the motions. Perhaps he's a man with problems that're distracting him from the day job.

Kenny phones it in these days. Someone like Straw must be astonished at the free publicity for his book.

The sneakiness of Jack Straw can be seen in the way he allowed General Pinochet's appeal against the Spanish extradition request to go all the way to the Law Lords who rejected it. No doubt he was hoping that the English Lords, the highest appellate court, would reject the Spanish request, thereby claiming justice had run its course. But when the Lords judged that the dictator should be handed over to Spain, Straw let him return to Chile in any case. Straw was always a snake and this is how he survived so long as a New Labour front bencher.

Straw allowed Pinochet to escape Spanish justice.

heard it and wondered about K's motivation. He does seem to loosing interest, athough this book stuff is researched by a lacky and he just fronts it. says volumes about Irelands limited vision that we bother with a complete lightweight from a busted flush former colonial "power"

Slim .. it has nothing to do Kenny's ability ...... I've heard him grill many a guest on the show ..... the problem is ...... Kenny was an ardent cheer-leader for the Iraq War.

You can say that again. That was one of the softest interviews I've ever heard.

You must have missed Myles Dungan interviewing the Irish terrorist who was on RTE boasting about his exploits in Libya and Syria. I thought they were going to present him with a medal.
