Default HOW Can this Government Save a Nation When they are so Busy Saving Themselves ?

The latest revelations on the Primary Care debacle highlight the top 5 Government members are ALL embroiled in the fight to save their own skins. It is unlikely that the Taoiseach and Tanaiste can discipline Government Ministers whilst being "up to their necks" in the controversy themselves.

James is determined that he will not go down alone or possibly not go down at all if he can implicate others.-

Blame spreads as Health Minister reveals he 'consulted' Taoiseach and Tanaiste over additions to primary care list

The Minister for Health, James Reilly, has revealed that he "consulted" the Taoiseach and the Tanaiste in a critical two-week period in July during which he increased from 20 to 35 the number of primary health care centre locations around the country.

In an admission which will spread the blame for a controversy that has dogged the Government, Dr Reilly told the Sunday Independent yesterday that the Public Expenditure and Reform Minister, Brendan Howlin was also kept in the loop when proposed centres at Balbriggan, Swords, as well as Roscommon and Kilkenny were added to the priority list.

The Sunday Independent can today also reveal that Dr Reilly held a meeting with Phil Hogan in relation to primary care centres, before he added a centre in the Environment Minister's constituency to a list of where they should be located. The meeting, which is recorded in Dr Reilly's ministerial diary, took place on February 29 and is listed as "re primary care".

This thread is being "kicked off" with the PCC debacle as an example but is for the highlighting of Government actions to save themselves.................

There is not one of them who has a problem with giving out goodies to their own constituencies, at the expence of the places that really need them.

Their problem is that they just "don't get" the fact that for a considerable part of the electorate, this is no longer acceptable.

The watershed that put Fianna Fail out of office was not personal to Fianna Fail and applied generally to corruption of the public budget.

Constituency over country is still the name of the game for these buckos.

Don't worry. Fine Gael are agin all that. Those days are over. From their 2011 manifesto

Fine Gael wants to reclaim Ireland from the vested interests which have done such terrible damage to our nation. We want to build a new Republic in which the interest of the people and not those of the insiders are placed at the centre of politics in Ireland. In so doing we will be guided by three key principles:

Change must start at the top - Politics must be about service to the public, not financial gain for politicians.

Change must be fundamental and comprehensive: Modern Ireland cannot be governed by a system of government originally designed for 19th Century Britain. Ireland needs more than piecemeal reform. It needs radical root and branch change.

    Change must involve the citizens:
    They will:

significantly strengthen Freedom of Information; establish a “whistleblowers charter”; register all lobbyists; and create a new Electoral Commission.

ban corporate donations to political parties

Labour too, luckily! If only FG and Labour were in power

End political cronyism by opening up positions
on state boards to all qualified candidates, and
require appointments to be scrutinised by the Dáil

Significantly reduce political donations and lower
the threshold for disclosure of donations

    Regulate political lobbying, including ex-Ministers
and senior civil servants working as private
    lobbyists after leaving public service

A Whistleblower’s Law to protect those in the
public and private sector who expose corruption
    or misconduct

Ministers and senior civil servants to be made
legally accountable for decisions they make

Amazing really that in the same area that made Harney a poster-child for deliberate evasion of responsibility now we see O'Reilly going the same route.

'Angola' seems to be the stall where the characters with the necks like a jockeys are put. This Minister for Privatisation of Healthcare and Destruction of the Public Healthcare Model is the same as the last.

Odd how the people given responsibility for a public health service are connected with private healthcare in their own personal profiles isn't it?

Harney's husband for one- a consultant for private healthcare and O'Reilly whose attempt to become a parasite landlord among his medical colleagues went south along with the property market.

O'Reilly is one of those people who went through medical school clearly with a keen eye to the license to print money that comes with the letters 'MD'.
Think National. Act Local. Oh- and superstition is just the dark matter of human history.
