Default Ireland - "The Best Small Country in The World In Which to do Business

Enda Kenny's mantra is that Fine Gael aim to make Ireland "The Best Small Country in Which to do Business."

    http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/...311918290.html

As it is a country with around 450,000 people unemployed, undergoing an unprecedented contraction of GNP and with virtually no availability of business lending, I've started a thread to explore exactly what he means by this.

In essence, it seems that the priority is to facilitate "ease of doing business" for Foreign Direct Investment, and for carve up of national assets by FDI, non-resident oligarchs, and - the feeling is growing - resident cronies.

The Minister for Health is working away at ensuring that Health is a good business.

19.8.12 the Sunday Times published an editorial titled "Politics Must Be Kept Separate from Business" that strongly criticised Michael Noonan for accepting hospitality from JP McManus, a Switzerland-based tax resident, while Noonan and the Government is engaged in a review of tax-residency rules.

Enda Kenny has been criticised for his links with Denis O'Brien, since the publication of the Moriarty Report.

The Sunday Times said that not only FG colleagues but also "Labour Partners" were supportive of Noonan meeting with McManus, "a popular figure in Limerick and big contributor to charity."

Have we moved any distance from the Ahern-Cowen regime under which the financial industry itself was invited into the Dail to draft the regulations that would supposedly control it ?

Not really. But FG are not the political wing of the CIF. Not that this matters when nothing is being built.

These fools are as in thrall with comtemptuous "businessmen" as their semi-criminal predecessors were. And are proving just are incompetent.

Ireland is a good place to do business, only if you are a business man though. In a recent statement , Roisin Shortall raised the issue of privatisation of the health system through competing insurance companies

    http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/...reaking11.html

She said Dr Reilly was “very much about the insurance companies running the health service and privatising large parts of the health service
There should be a full disclosure by all politicians of their links to financial offers and a ban in place on receving any financial or "gifts" from any businessman which could have a direct influence on decisions which they could gain from. With the fire sale of state assets coming up (ESB, Aer Lingus et al) there could be revelations.
Cause I can’t change, I can’t change the world alone
I need you all, everybody, start dreaming of it
And take your step that’s gonna make a difference and change your world
