Is this an improvement ?
STATEMENT BY NESSA CHILDERS
Labour Party MEP for Ireland East*

*Labour MEP Nessa Childers says that Minister Reilly's position is untenable
Nessa Childers said today that she had grave concern about the suitability of the Minister James Reilly in delivering positive and progressive health care.
"The main body of my work in the European Parliament is in the area of public health. *Pofessionals in the health sector agree that primary care is a priority across Europe and a critical*component to good public health.* I deal with Irish health representatives in Brussels on a regular basis and this subject, primary care, is at the core of their strategies.
"It appears to me that there is now a failure to deal with primary care as envisioned in the programme for government.* The report in today’s Irish Independent raises further serious questions about Minister Reilly’s approach to public health.
“Access to the health care cannot only be the gift for the chosen few, or if you have a Minister for Health in your constituency.* Care centres must be allocated according to need.* As Deputy Roisin Shortall stated, the latest revelations suggest that other priorities are dictating where primary care centres are located.
It now appears that Fine Gael is continuing the previous government’s practice of allocating public health on the basis of patronage, and not according to need.
This is a critical moment for the Labour Parliamentary Party – the party in Government has to take a stand on insisting that health care, and indeed all Government policy is operated in an open and transparent manner and that all resources are allocated according to need – not privilege.
What will Eamo say to this?
Are there any State boards he can appoint the Mayor to?
http://www.independent.ie/national-n...s-3248946.htmlTANAISTE Eamon Gilmore is being challenged to sack Health Minister Dr James Reilly by a Labour Party Mayor in the wake of the latest revelations about the minister.
The Irish Independent revealed this morning a supporter of the Health Minister owns the site in the minister’s constituency where a controversial health centre will be built.
Mayor of Fingal Cian O’Callaghan, the chairman of the council in north Dublin, says Mr Gilmore must force Dr Reilly to resign.

Good article in the Examiner
WHEN the Labour party crashes and burns in the next general election political commentators will be able to trace the definitive start of its implosion in government to its shameless shafting of Roísín Shortall.
The theme of the last general election was political reform — largely because the country was too broke for the usual auction politics that routinely accompanied every previous election cycle in this country.
The cute hoor clientelism, championed so successfully for so long by Fianna Fáil, and which played a large part in bankrupting the country, was lambasted and derided by those in Fine Gael and Labour.http://www.irishexaminer.com/opinion...RTyCSU.twitterLaughably, James Reilly professed himself to be one of the biggest proponents of this damascene conversion to ethics in high office.
"The three key principles that underpin everything we do in Fine Gael are transparency, accountability and fairness. One cannot get fairness if one does not have accountability. One cannot get accountability without transparency. We do not have sufficient transparency," he thundered, during a Dáil debate on the accountability of government agencies and companies

I'd put it differently:-
WHEN the Labour party crashes and burns in the next general election political commentators will be able to trace the definitive start of its implosion in government to the day it signed up to a programme with no Labour input, it didn't secure the finance portfolio and the leader took Foreign Affairs.
Morgan Kelly accurately forecast that under Fine Gael corruption would become more run of the mill than ever. He recommended a "low number Fine Gael card" as the best value financial asset on offer. That was over a year ago.
Fine Gael is a party of big business, Irish and international, but still has time for the "small man" if he is well connected.
"Government of reform" for Fine Gael means more neoliberal rip off of the many by the few - privatisation - outsourcing - wage slashing etc. etc.
Everyone knows that the "social agenda" is a fudge.
Labour will liquidate itself if it remains in Government with Fine Gael. A matter of time before the Party splits.
Does that mean she become a member of the technical group or tows the line with Labour? Shortall was not in for the Long Hall as the letter read in the paper the other day (think the Baron posted it).Shortall has been treated terribly and while she has not covered herself in glory in her position (*cough* HIV Unit Cherry Orchard *cough*) she has been given the heave ho by Labour. Gilmore and Co should be backing their own instead of kicking them to the kerb. In the next election Shortall should be joining the ULA or even Shinners I dare say to perhaps get on the ticket next time. Reillys position is untenable, the government is going to collapose and Shortall will have been proved right...
