Default Boy Soldier of Irish Citizen Army

Matthew Connolly was the younger brother of Sean Connolly, the Irish Citizen Army officer who was among the earliest rebel casualties on Easter Monday. His Witness Statement is interesting because it shows the ICA had a youth group and suggests at least one other ICA member was killed before his brother at City Hall.

There are historians who spend years writing books on our past which wouldn't come close to revealing the true nature of events in the way that statement does.

The statements are very powerful -

I've read a description of what happened in that building by one of the women there. I wonder if there is any other record of an uprising like it? I doubt it.

Reading it reminded me of the youtubes from Syria, in the early stages of the uprising there. Ordinary people, men and women, and boys, taking on a conventional army, in a city.

What this country is facing now pales in comparison ....

Our revolution was stolen from us.
