Default Attacks on the Irish Workforce

This morning I found out that workers at Tipperary Spring were allegedly fired for trying to join or form a union . SWP are holding a protest on it Monday morning (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=1&theater) . There has not been a peep about this on any of the Irish news sites like the journal or the Indo or any other news or press sites. Along side this consider the staff at Guineys in Dublin who are have been told that they will not be entitled to a pension for the years they ahve worked (some of them payed in for 35+ years).

The employees found about the store closure by telephone.
“They went home from work on Monday evening and they got a phone call telling them not to come in on Tuesday,” said Michael Meegan of MANDATE trade union which represents some of the former employees.
Meegan said the new owners “have made it clear” that they’re not accepting liability for pensions for the 29 employees.
Luas drivers are going on strike, any other documented attacks on workers please put them here...

The Press is most comfortable reporting on redundancy disputes, where firms are being closed.

I've not seen anything on Tipperary Spring. Good to hear people are wanting to join unions.

The threat by Aer Lingus to hold SIPTU, its officers and its members personally liable for any losses it incurs if the workers avail of their right to strike is an extremely sinister development.

Shameful to see this happening in a company that's 25% owned by the state while the Labour party is in government.

Looks like SIPTU has caved in to the threats from Aer Lingus.

Whatever happened to the legislation passed a century ago to reverse the Taff Vale court judgment? This made unions unliable for losses incurred by employers as a result of a lawful strike.

Employers are making full use of the recession to dismantle workers rights and conditions. And they have the full support of the government.

Apparently it did the opposite, at least in Britian anyways

The Taff Vale decision made trade
unions liable for damages in respect of
    industrial action.
    It required legislation
to overturn which the Liberal Party could
    not accommodate. Increased support, affiliation
    and affiliation fees from trade
unions, and the consequent block voting
system, utterly changed the character of
the Labour Party. What would have been,
and probably for no great duration, a Liberal
party of Socialist Societies became a
real Labour Party, constrained to trade
    union purposes.

No, I think that a Trade Union Act was passed around 1906 which protected the unions.

It looks like Clerys workers are being shafted over their pension rights:
CLERYS WORKERS will take to the streets next Tuesday to protest over the demise of their pension scheme following the recent takeover of the retailer by US private equity group Gordon Brothers.

Members of Siptu and Mandate will protest outside the O’Connell Street store to “highlight their disgust” at the manner in which staff have been treated by the recent receivership of Clerys and its sale to Gordon Brothers.
