That means there can be no room in Fine Gael for the cute-hoor politics. These are the politics which have defined and tainted Irish public life like an incurable cancer. We cannot be satisfied with low standards in high places. Fine Gael in government must be much more than simply “Fianna Fail Light”.

We cannot, on the one hand, condemn Fianna Fail for entertaining developers in the Galway tent, while on the other hand extend the biscuit tin for contributions from high profile developers,

    • Daly( Rivervalley boundary changes should re-elect her without her needing to jump on every local campaign North of Swords)
    • Farrell( gets a nose bleed north of the Donabate turn off and is scared shiteless of Reilly, he is like a human Tron, has more of an online and Twitter profile than in actual reality.
    • Reilly (still people that believe his snakeoil speeches, novice at politics is always rolled out as his defence but you don't become President of the IMO without been already a career politician)
    • Ryan( the brother) just keeping the seat warm and the family surname active until a younger relative shows up.

    Potential other runners
    • Sargent()
    • O'Toole(most likely protest candidate against the Dublin Drainage scheme, keeps popping up in the local papers which is always a sign. Sargent ex press secretary)
    • Corr( ex green cllr, will probably run if he gets elected at the next local election and this government runs to a 5 year term)
    • Sinn Fein (previous candidates were nutcases even by SF standards and they only seem to have a profile when an election is around the corner. If they were serious about winning a seat they need to work hard 3-4 years out from the GE)

I hope to god that one or two of the business people with good reputations decide to throw their hat in the ring otherwise its a choice of voting for who you think will cause less embarrassment rather than benefit the state.
I think once there is a change in seat number/constituency, it doesn't come into effect at the next election, but the one after that.... ?

    That's the one:
DEVELOPER Michael O'Flynn's defamation action against Fine Gael Minister of State Lucinda Creighton may get a High Court hearing date late this year.

The proceedings by the well-known Cork developer and Fine Gael donor, whose companies have had loans of about €1bn transferred to NAMA, were initiated in late July 2010 just days after Ms Creighton gave a speech entitled "Standards in Public Life and Accountability" to the MacGill Summer School in Co Donegal.

And the row goes on. A spokesperson this evening for Shorthall said that the meeting with Reilly was tense and difficult' and no explanation for the criteria Reilly used to change the health centre list was provided.

You'd have to wonder at this stage what Shortall's game is. She must know that FG won't throw Reilly overboard just to suit a stroppy junior from the mudguard party. It's hard to escape the conclusion that she's using Reilly as a proxy to get at Gilmore.

She will no longer be a member of the Parliamentary Labour Party but will still be a party member. The government can no longer rely on her vote.

Now 'outside' the parliamentary party, like Nulty and Broughon.
The 'Chief Whip' (which is Stagg in this case, Kehoe for FG) is to keep the party at one at members in line. Step out of line, loose the whip.
Goes back to Parnell and the IPP
