FIRM news from the Minister for Health that the long-awaited Balbriggan Primary Care Centre 'will progress' has been welcomed in the town. In a written response to a request for an update on the project from town councillor, Cllr. Frank Snowe (NP), the Minister for Health, Dr. James Reilly, said: 'A potential site in Balbriggan for the PCC (Primary Care Centre) has been identified. ' The HSE has recently advised that it has been informed that the purchase price has been agreed in principle. It is expected that the development will progress.'
The news has been welcomed by Cllr. Snowe who said a primary care facility for Balbriggan is 'essential'. ' There is a real need for this, we are a growing town and we need all the facilities and supports we can get,' the Balbriggan town councillor said. The letter from the minister confirms there has been progress on the project since June when Minister Reilly told the Fingal Independent: ' There are negotiations going on and its down to price now.'
In that exclusive interview, the minister said: 'I'm very pleased to say the one in Balbriggan is running ahead and we hope to have some news on that in the not too distant future. ' There are some negotiations going on. I would think before the end of the year we would have news on that and we will have a site.' The Fingal Independent understands that a complicated property deal involving NAMA delayed the sale of the site earmarked for the project. It is understood that a property on the Dublin Road near St. Peter and Paul's church has been identified for the project and there is a developer behind the multi-million Euro care centre which is set to deliver state-of-the-art health care to the people of Balbriggan.
It is a private development with the backing of the HSE and it is understood that a number of health care professionals are already signed up to operate the facility.
you're days are numbered when Miriam Lord is drawing comparisons with Bertie I think
Gilmore says HSE Chief told him there was no Ministerial involvement in choosing the site
Tony O'Brien is the new DG appointed by Reilly
Cathal McGee resigned as head of HSE on the 18th of July, the day after that article I posted above was published.
Dept of Health never released McGee's resignation later but he seemed to leave around the same time Reilly was changing the criteria.
