A senior housing officer once told me that if all social housing was awarded on the needs basis that is, officially, the way it is done, that Travellers would all be housed by now, and hardly any settled people would have been housed.

What he left out was the fact that the numbers of houses in social ownership declined radically due to the policies of government sell-off and cut back in construction of public housing.

Hogan most certainly represents the racist vote. And every time the fuccer appears in public, he should be reminded of it.

Every group of new houses was supposed to have property set aside as affordable housing. Developers used to do a deal with local authorities whereby this allotment would be set aside with a promise to deliver at a later time. Then the bubble burst...
    Bugger to that:
BUILDING firms have paid €78.6 million to avoid their responsibilities under the social and affordable housing scheme.

But home-seekers remain the real losers as city, county and town councils receive the payouts but do not re-invest the monies in social housing, say housing rights campaigners.

More than 43,000 people are on council housing waiting lists — with many anxious to avail of affordable housing.

Under Part V of the Planning and Development Act 2000, developers were required to set aside 20% of their rezoned land for social or affordable housing.

But contractors can skip their responsibility by availing of a buy-out loophole.

The asking of such questions has no bearing whatsoever on a family getting a house, why not ask them if they have a dog or a cat? There is facilities for the raising of horses availabel in nearby locations Im sure.

Travellers are not a separate race. Some in the traveller support industry are claiming that they are a separate race. that is a bogus claim to extract more money from the tax-payer and the settled communiity

Not wanting to personalise the matter particularly, some of the comments on this thread illustrate well why we are where we are - (wherever that is in your view/opinion).

Saying that you won't get re-elected if you don't 'fix' things may be true but doesn't make it any more justified than interfering with housing allocation.

Hogan represents the worst aspects of the phenomenon, he plays to the base instincts of people, because those sorts of people are guaranteed supporters if you play their game.

Disgusting, it stinks, but as has been said, it is the way things are, shame on us.

OK, I hear the 'wake up and smell the coffee' retorts, but it doesn't stop me from reminding us what we might be if we did things properly.

    A strangely encouraging post

We should not forget that the first of the public sector cuts, made in 2009, was to the education budget for Traveller children, and to the best of my memory, nobody spoke up for them.

Strange one from the Dutch. They are going to create a social problem to try and solve one.

The Villages will bear a strange resemblance to Halting Sites in Ireland.

Amsterdam is to create "Scum villages" where nuisance neighbours and anti-social tenants will be exiled from the city and rehoused in caravans or containers with "minimal services" under constant police supervision.

And thereby further ghettoising the city , not a clever plan by any stretch of the imagination. The creation of these suburbs lends itself to more social unrest instead of providing them with an opportunity.

Speaking of judges, i believe Clare Daly has named one of the judges benefitting from the penalty point extinguishments. She has done this under Dail privilege, so that makes it allright to identify him or her.

Can anyone give us the name, or if not, say why not?

Some Travellers are Neanderthals but then so too are many district court judges.

Didn't a British MP stand up in the Commons and name Ryan Giggs who was the subject of a super-injunction, whose name was immediately plastered all over the media? Surely the same principle would apply here?

Repetition of anything that may be defamatory or untrue is in itself a breach of the law. Not that this is breach of the law but if there is a legal situation where there may be such a situation its best to remain cautious.

We have a thread on that, that Dr. FIVE started.

I dropped into the thread as I haven't posted here since reading that Hogan had lobbied for a traveller family to get accommodation.

So, he's not anti-traveller, just totally cynical.
