The Indo reports this morning that the man at the centre of this affair has several convictions for minor offences. He denies having any convictions.

There's a hefty payout waiting for him at the Four Courts if he's telling the truth.

It would not come as a surprise, nor would it affect my view that he and his family should be able to have a home.

Mr Carthy's solicitor said his client had consumed about eight pints before leaving the pub on the sulky and that he had sped up when the gardai had approached so as not to hold them up.
I see that the Kilkenny Courts also convicted a Traveller couple with no previous convictions for going too slow in a sulky.

The Sindo has published an apology to Hogan for comments made about him in its coverage of this story.

Phil Hogan even lost his temper with radio stations looking to discuss the issues!

Phil Hogan opens his mouth and look at the storm....sorry but reading that headline I could be forgiven for thinking that is the implication!

If Hogan asked whether the family in question had horses, I would regard that as a legitimate enquiry.

Altho travellers now have motor transport, some claim that it is part of their culture than they be given space for horses - not possible in housing estates

What about the "dogs" part? Was that legitimate too?

    Does your mother have herpes?

    Legitimate enquiry.

Many housing estates have green areas attached. I know of cases where travellers on being housed in the estate put their horses into the green area, creating a hazard and depriving others of it's use.

Many local authority tenancy agreements have clauses prohibiting keeping of those dogs commonly listed as dangerous.

I think Hogan was entitled to ask about horses and dogs.

I don't understand the relevance of your query about herpes.

Many housing authorities have rules. Hogan is no more charged with enforcing these rules than I am. Moreso, nobody in the authority should even be discussing the matter with Hogan. Information about who is to be housed is private and confidential, this information is none of Hogan's business. Christ knows, he is completely and utterly unable to deal with matters that are his business.

The relevance of my herpes question is that it was an insulting demand for information, pretending to have some relevance. Similar to Hogan's demand. The difference being that Hogan's demand was insulting to a whole group of people and was looking to find an angle so that Hogan could follow up his racist demands with some racist action.

    SR

I have been involved with local authorities for about 50 years.

Enquiries from TDs about housing matters are routine, and their queries responded to. That is the way the world works

I'm well aware of stroke politics and how it works. Someone gets a new house, that someone then receives a load of congratulatory letters from the local TDs, wherein they imply that they helped secure the new home, etc. What I'm unaware of is what legislation facilitates this breach of security and confidentiality.

The fact that this abuse has been ongoing forever is not evidence that it is not abuse.

One can only surmise that the reasoning behind Hogan's questions is to facilitate Hogan in denying a family a home. A traveller family that is.

Phil and the other members of the Golden Dawn, sincerely need to go. He's well beyond being a joke at this stage.

    SR,

In average multi-member constituencies TDs who do not so represent their constituents are unlikely to be re-elected.
