There's a very reactionary authoritarian streak in FG, it's the primary reason they've never been trusted with an overall majority, you just know they'll be chomping at the bit to set the riot cops on protesters if the opportunity arises.

Shatter seemed like a man who could shake up the justice system, now he seems like an authoritarian with an agenda. His attacks on Irish neutrality during the emergency are a blatantly transparent attempt to push his pro-Israel agenda.

I would be in favour of a thread that debates what life could look like if Ireland left the EU. In terms of free press, economic and civil liberties, sovereignty and neutrality, the EU has taken everything we have. There are a lot of posters on here with good ideas and I think a good discussion might get a few ideas flowing amongst our many reputable emigres on here.

The only way to reclaim our sovereignty and neutrality is to leave the EU. I would like to talk about that. It should be a plan that a few of us have an eye on anyways given where we'll likely be in 5 years time economically and politically.

1. The current American visa head in Dublin was brought in to do accounts. suddenly he became visa chief

2. On Aug 28 2012 Helen Fitzgerald of foreign affairs appealed for return of an Irish citizen's passport from the embassy after hearing it was to be held for several weeks for no reason- he has had a total of 10 visas form the USA, no criminal record of any sort

3. The passport was returned next day with the stipulation that the process was to reboot......

4. US immigration has admonished the current American visa head for holding on to passports too long. this is an unauthorized operation and is almost certainly CIA

It seems as if the media are heeding Shatter. No mention of this whatsoever in the media (at least I haven't noticed any coverage) despite hundreds of people marching, including elected reps and a large Garda presence.
