Kilmainham Mill
‘The site of Kilmainham Mill was in continuous use as a mill from the sixteenth-century through to 2000 and is probably the only unaltered nineteenth-century fulling mill remaining within Dublin. A Conservation Plan was commissioned in 2001 in recognition of its significance, with planning permission granted in 2005 for a residential apartment development which arose out of the findings of the Conservation Plan. However the development has since stalled, and with the planning permission due to expire soon, there is a greater risk from dereliction to the site. The Mill is now in receivership under NAMA. Ceantar Mhaighneann, The Kilmainham and Inchicore Heritage Group are organising a campaign to save the Mill.

Thanks for starting the thread. There are buildings of similar importance all over Ireland bought up in the boom and now standing empty and becoming derelict.

Extreme weather conditions with more rain and ice are leading to much more rapid deterioration.

NAMA needs a policy for preservation of historically important buildings.

NAMA needs massive reconstruction or abolition.

It is too important an issue to leave to the likes of the delinquent vandals and criminals that constituted the last government.

Simplest solution would be to just hand it all over to the Heritage Council of Ireland. They even have info on grants that are available to people (http://www.heritagecouncil.ie/archit.../publications/) to do up these places. Of course this would be a pragmatic approach knowing Inda and Co there would be rakes of pointless legislation and some idiotic quango set up handle it.
