    Default Housing Problems in Ireland

Programme full of endearing children on RTE 1, living in very cramped accommodation, some public and some private, mainly flats.

Hopping around Dublin at the moment. Congriffin - Dolphins Barn - the East Wall. No very clear idea given of how the problem has come about. In some cases, couples bought a two bed flat at the height of the boom.

People spending daft sums on flats that are now in negative equity so they can't trade up to a house?

Still can't afford anything. No mortgage. And not everyone wants to buy, anyway.

You can move from a rented flat to a rented house.

Terms and conditions apply. No purchase necessary.

This seems to be what they would like to do.

Heard about this last night. Cllr Dermot Looney was tweeting about it last night and said it was good tv Its a reflection of the poor planning that went into a lot of the planning at the time that some of the apartments apparently did not have any balconies and were not designed for families. In Europe most of the apartments/flats/Houses all take into account long term leases and family and this is reflected in leases, especially in places like Germany
