That's true, every time you turn off the computer, everything is lost. Chance your luck and install it on a USB stick then, but don't expect miracles. And with a regular OS installation, those drives don't last very long. The huge amount of disk writes is killing them rather sooner than later.
I dropped out of communism class because of lousy Marx.

The gremlins are against me TM.

I created a live CD and started to boot from it. Everything seemed ok to start but then it just hung. On the second attempt it didn't even spin up the CD. When I booted from the USB drive I can't see the CD drive any more.

My next great wheeze was to use the CD to install on the flash drive from my desktop. That went smoothly but when I booted the laptop from the resultant installation it started with another friggin' menu offering to boot Windows or Xubuntu. Choosing Xubuntu did let me boot but without WiFi and limited functionality for the touch-pad mouse.

Thanks for your help on this but I think it's gone as far as I can hope to go at this stage.

A few minutes ago the box below popped up in front of me while browsing PW. Anyone know what it's trying to tell me and if I should care?

    I wouldn't worry about it.
I think it's just a quirk resulting from an update to your Firefox concerning Cascading Style Sheets which help in the layout of web pages. Your newer Firefox doesn't recognise code in the old format.(with the moz- prefix.) When the website fixes its code you won't recieve the error.

I worry about Mrs. Five In The Face's Notebook. I hope it's still OK.

If dreams were lightning, thunder was desire, this whole place would have burned down, a long time ago.

Thanks SS. It's not doing it any more.
