Letter from RSF in the Irish Times today:
A chara, – In regard to a letter from Des Long (September 12th), we wish to place on record that Republican Sinn Féin has no function or role in deciding who is or is not accepted on republican landings in any prison, including Maghaberry in Co Antrim.
Further we point out that the decision not to accept the individuals concerned onto the republican landing was made by the POWs themselves.
Republican Sinn Féin supports the republican POWs in this course of action. – Is sinne,

Sure what business is it of anyone outside the loop to know what the heck this is about ?
Was at the Marian Price protest today, wasn't mentioned whatsoever, said it to a few people and they dismissed it as "rubbish". If people were on hunger strike, surely amongst all the talk of screw brutality, strip searches etc, this would have been mentioned?
I don't know enough about how to judge information coming out of prisons.
I was just looking for any reports on this, and Maghaberry seems to be a total hell hole for all prisoners.
There seems to be one death by suicide after another - mainly people in for petty crime.
This guy, who died after an overdose, sounds like someone suffering from depression and not coping with life, who consequently ended up a danger to himself and others, and in jail. It's Dickensian.

The ombudsman's report reveals that the 21-year-old had a history of drug and alcohol abuse, had previously overdosed on prescription medication, and had significant behavioural and psychiatric problems.
After trying to hang himself at home in November 2007, a psychiatrist noted a history of impulsiveness, explosive anger and recurrent thoughts of suicide.
The conclusion was that Mr Hogg suffered from a psychopathic disorder.
In October 2008, he was admitted to hospital for a week for psychiatric treatment. His records also noted that he used illicit drugs such as cannabis and ecstasy.
Prison officers and health care staff in Maghaberry should have been aware of this medical record when Mr Hogg was sent to prison in September 2010 to await trial on a charge of attempted murder.
'Particularly vulnerable' He had been in prison four times previously for minor offences, including non-payment of fines.

Perhaps socialist republicans should be campaigning for improved conditions for all prisoners at Maghaberry. I can't comprehend how a prison could have that number of deaths by suicide. Very sad cases.
A blog post is saying that their protest has been cancelled.

[QUOTE=C. Flower;276337]A blog post is saying that their protest has been cancelled.
The protest that was to take place outside the jail today was cancelled
not the hunger strike
The blog has been updated today
According to the Sunday World [i know] but their ''sources'' inside the prison are saying the 4 men are stuffing their faces with mars bars from the prison tuck shop.
The dogs on the street know not to trust the Sunday World or it's sources which is a renowned gutter rag and notorious for misinformation especially concerning prison and prisoner issues.
The POA [Prison Officers Association] will wait until the proverbial hits the fan through main stream media like tv before they comment.
