Default TD's might be forced to PAY for their food and drink

The shock. Are we a third world country?

Who can TD's lobby in cases like this?

Labour TD Jack Wall told TheJournal.ie that one of the suggestions made to the commission was an automatic deduction of unpaid bills from politician’s wages.

In a meeting in June the Ceann Comhairle requested a sub committee to examine ways to reduce administration in relation to invoicing and credit management as a means to a more streamlined process.

Wall said one of the suggestions was in relation to situations where a member cannot pay the bill on the spot because they have forgotten their wallet, for example.

“In that case, if it was unpaid after three months it would be automatically deducted from their monthly cheque,” he said.

Earlier this month a Freedom of Information request by the Evening Herald revealed politicians left behind a bar and restaurant bill of €65,000 this summer. The majority of the money related to bills run up at the Oireachtas restaurant where members left an outstanding sum of over €54,000.

We are not allowed to to do this. I once forgot to pay and the next time I went in to the members bar here they descended on me in five seconds! V embarrassing it was too.

No embarrassment in the Dail I bet.

Badge of honour more like. Who has the biggest unpaid tab?

A simple way to deal with this would be to allow TDs to operate either on a cash or deduction basis. If they don't want to do cash then have them sign an authorisation to have their tab deducted from the following months salary.

you'd think it would be simple but they will find a way to complicate it.

The occasional TD might prefer using cash too! Keep the salary in the bank account and use cash (from whatever source or envelope) for all expenditure

This is part of the agenda of big business and government. The right to take money from someones bank account without their permission.

Collecting debts through the courts is very expensive for businesses. They would much prefer to just TAKE the money from your bank account. At the moment, such a right doesnt exist.

The future is going to be a dystopian nightmare. Get ready now, prepare yourself!

TDs should resist by bringing in their own hang sangwidges and bottles of tay.

Why not introduce a system where they are given electronic cards that they top up? Everytime they then buy something the money is deducted from their card, its simple fast and effective. Its in operation in a lot of Irish companies here and multinationals that operate in Dublin, it ensures that people are paying upfront at least .
They may crush the flowers, and trample every living thing but they cant stop the spring..

Because they do not want it

TD's would rather carry a balance so if they lose their seat/retire they get away without paying

And the way to deal with that is to make credit facilities at the Dail bar/restaurant contingent upon the member signing an authorisation for deduction of amounts outstanding from their terminal payments.
