Default Is there infighting in Fine Gael...

There is ample evidence that there is a split within the Labour and Fine Gael camps after comments from the parties on alternating sides of issues such as gay marriage, cuts to welfare and other assorted issues that were cropping up. However despite all this is there a divide within the Fine Gael party itself? The Cedar Lounge Revolution is reporting on statements by Brian Hayes (http://cedarlounge.wordpress.com/201...ll-fancy-that/) in which Fine Gael are more than a party of farmers but are also representing the PAYE workers too (no sniggering there !). This comment seemed to be contradicted however when there was further comments by Tom Hayes who took exception the means testing of farming assets and said

But he warned that rural Fine Gael TDs would not capitulate on the question of means-testing farming assets, describing it as “core” to the party.
Back when there was a discussion of gay marriage , Gump would not be drawn on it when there was comments before by Eamon Gilmore as to if it would be introduced. Fine Gael decided at their annual piss up Ard Fheis that it would be a priority (http://www.irishexaminer.com/breakin...on-545759.html) . Are Lucinda and Gay Mitchell in support of these notions?

Is there any other evidence out there that there is a division in FG? I might get the twitter machine going and ask for their opinions but any other evidence welcome...

    "Core" to the party!!!!

I love it! The country is F.U.B.B. and this guy is talking about what is "core" to the party. "Core" in this instance relates to rural people refusing to pay. And he will make sure their refusal is heard.

    Nonsense really.

Of course they are but most put up a united front. Is there any other instances of divisions in the FG party?

Anyone suggesting that farmers in Ireland would be asked at any time how much they have in the way of assets would have to be off their head.

There isn't even a proper property register available in Ireland and that is primarily because farmers lose when it anyone suggests there should be one.
Think National. Act Local. Oh- and superstition is just the dark matter of human history.

Exactly. Perish the thought that they´s actually contribute to society in a fair or even-handed way

The most obvious other division is the pro/anti Gump sides. That one will probably be brought to a head by pressure from outside. The media gave him an extraordinarily soft run at the last GE because of course, the interests they represent wanted to continue with FF policy and the best way to achieve that was through an FG dominated government. That could never last though.

Once he became Taoiseach they couldn't keep him hidden all the time and his propensity to make a complete **** of himself every time he opens his mouth can't be covered up in these internet days. As he becomes more and more of a liability his support will drop away. I'd be surprised if he leads FG into the next GE.

The religious/moral divide probably isn't hugely important because money will trump God in the middle of a recession.

The urban/rural divide is probably the one that will focus most TDs minds because it has the most potential to cost them their seats. There's no indication that the cabinet is aware of the depth of feeling in rural areas about the loss of services and the unjust septic tank tax. An economically senseless move to include the farm/livestock in education means tests would be a huge boost to FF at FGs expense.

Few days after I start this thread and look what happens, another row. Rabbite is telling the virgins in frocks to get bent while the Fine Wailers are telling them that even though they will remain celibate, never raise a family and read a book of fairytales that they can have a voice. This is another example of the difference in government. Coming up to budget times now Moan will telling us how she is going to butcher the taxes of the working class and Gump will contradict her, Im sure..
