    Default Missing Persons

A search is underway in Co Wicklow today for a young man who is missing since the early hours of Sunday morning.
James Sheehan (18) with an address at Ballyduff road, Arklow in Wicklow was last seen leaving the nightclub in his hometown at around 2.38am on Sunday morning.

He is described as being 189cm (6ft 2in) in heigh, and of athletic build, with short, tightly cut red hair. He was wearing a light grey Henley hoodie with a neon orange lining, blue jeans and tan Kickers shoes.

Missingpersons.ie is a good idea, but has no photos, so I can't see that it can be very effective. There's a report of a 16 year old missing a week - and no image of him.

It would make sense for boards and the Journal maybe to have a spot for a photo of a person recently gone missing.

The amount of media at our fingertips - TV/Cell phones/net/social network - you'd think there's be an accessible clearinghouse of names/dates/areas/pics to hand.

Facebook should be able to circulate photos linked to info.

Facebook pretty well know where we all are anyway.

And now there is facial recognition technology.

smart phone apps to perhaps show the last whereabouts of a person. If someone could install it and then log the info. They can do it by triangulating a signal but GPS would allow for more flexibility. The android phones are good in this way.

Greek TV has a 2 minute or so slot in the evening called "Silver Alert". It is specifically aimed at alerting the larger community of missing elderly. The presenter gives all the details, including last seen etc while a clear passport picture of the missing person is permanently visible during the broadcast.
This simple short broadcast has been responsible for the avoidance of many tragedies.
From what I hear it is now being looked at to expand the formula to a "missing persons alert"

Being a national broadcaster, charging hefty licence fees, RTE surely could spout 2 minutes less of crap and do something constructive with the money they get from the TV licenses?

Put it on after the news. Its a great idea that at least could enable someone to remember if they have seen someone who may be missing. Currently the only programme that comes to mind is Crimeline where reconstructions make Fair City look like Oscar worthy performances and every assailant is wearing a black balaclava and blue jeans and could be 50% of the population. They do a missing person section every so often but its deplorable...

I wonder what ever happened to Trevor Deely (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trevor_Deely) . Saw a poster about him a few days ago on the docks and on the quays.

I think that if all the boards did something it would help. With RTE, they could do it as a news item, but they can only put an image up for a few seconds.

Some of our Celtic Kittens would be scratching their heads wondering why anyone would try to find missing old people. After all, pensioners are just consuming resources that could be used to pay off boom time mortgages.

Ourselves, boards.ie, the football message boards and some of the other sites out there. A network so to speak? You might on to something. Boards.ie certainly would be worth a look in for something like that, they connect to the whole population.

Yes. We could put pictures and info on when people were last seen quickly.
The posts could be tweeted too.

I retweet posts about lost dogs fhs.
