Other than a few pretty anonymous figures, Tutankhamen was sandwiched between Egypt's worst Pharaoh, Akhenaten and its greatest Ramses the Great. His reign was also noted for its brevity.

Maybe there's still room for hope.

There has to be hope when one side of Enda's sandwich is Brian Cowen

So now we need to get Gump on a chariot, put up with two place fillers after him and then it's 50 glorious years.

"Chief architect of them." I think that is the truth. I don't think that Lowry's man would come up with that stuff.

I really think we are looking into the mind of Enda. A spoofer, with no regard for the truth and a high regard for business, and a gra for restructuring.

Miriam O'Callaghan (not the RTE one) is his speechwriter

Are you stretching it a bit, with the word mind.

Bit of indication here - in relation to the Cloyne Report speech - "Miriam O'Callaghan all over it" - touches of Kenny.

There are some passages that are written professionally and others that are not. I'm reminded of this -

A Sonnet James Kenneth Stephen (1859–92) TWO voices are there: one is of the deep; It learns the storm-cloud’s thunderous melody, Now roars, now murmurs with the changing sea, Now bird-like pipes, now closes soft in sleep: And one is of an old half-witted sheep 5 Which bleats articulate monotony, And indicates that two and one are three, That grass is green, lakes damp, and mountains steep: And, Wordsworth, both are thine: at certain times, Forth from the heart of thy melodious rhymes 10 The form and pressure of high thoughts will burst: At other times—good Lord! I ’d rather be Quite unacquainted with the A. B. C. Than write such hopeless rubbish as thy worst.
In the case of Kenny's speeches, the two voices do not belong to the same person.

No video record on merrionstreet.ie. Disappointing for historians and future generations.

This gives a flavour of Miriam O'Callaghan's writing - an article she wrote on being unemployed, broke and on social welfare in 2010.

    http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/...311460410.html

There is that slightly out of breath, stream of consciousness pace and tone, but not the bombast, folksy touches and made up factoids.

    From O'Callaghan's article -

Now I’m back at work. Back on my feet. Getting there involved gullet-sticking choices.
    Poor woman.

    Poor woman.
Good to see that heart felt panic stricken stuff is no longer there. Wouldn't really go down very well in a confident, forward looking, driving the recovery atmosphere, would it?
From my stint on social welfare, I believe every political adviser, and government adviser, should experience the panic of not being able to pay the bills, feel the shock of losing control over their lives, know the dread of going days without a cent.

An old post from April of this year -

Front page of the Daily Mail - "Kenny's right hand man was Lowry's top aide".

This is about someone called Mark Kennelly, who was Special Adviser (does that mean paid by the public purse, by FG or by Lowry) from 1995-6. He gave evidence in the McCracken Tribunal - something to do with representations Lowry made on behalf of Dunne in a Court case.

Mark Kennelly is now Enda Kenny's chef de cabinet. The Mail claims this is "hugely embarrassing for Fine Gael". Undeniably, there are questions to ask of that whole FG/Lab Cabinet and all associated with the licence process, but given that FF effectively took Lowry in, I don't think they can be asked by FF.

Kennelly according to the Mail advises Kenny on policy and on public appearances and was involved with the negotiations with Labour.

There are a number of anonymous FG sources quoted. Is this genuine concern or prep for an eventual heave?

"..a widespread internal disquiet at Mr. Kennelly's close relationship with Mr. Lowry and Mr. Kenny." Surprise and shock was expressed by this source about Kennelly's appointment.

"Another concerned Fine Gael TD said "Kennelly is one of a troika - Kenny, Kennelly and Phil Hogan, that has controlled the party since last summer's heave." Kennelly appears to have worked professionally as a researcher and policy adviser to Fine Gael from before 1995 to the present.

Kennelly went to Brussels and Helsinki with Kenny and some might be inclined to assume that he pulls the strings that open and shut Enda Kenny's mouth.

The story was written by John Lee.

I suppose Kennelly is now working on how Enda Kenny will handle this controversy, and his apparent unpopularity in some parts of FG.
