    Default The Peoples' Convention

The Peoples' Convention has been meeting over the last couple of days to discuss the Irish Constitution.

The Covention is opposed to Fine Gael's proposed reforms, which it views are a threat to democracy. The Referendums were opposed on the same grounds.

The leader of the organisation, Diarmuid O'Cadha, stood for the Senate in 2011.

O'Cadhla says that the Government's proposals are in fact EU wide measures being centrally following the Lisbon Treaty.

I don't know much about the Peoples' Convention, but I think they were right to oppose the Thirteenth Amendment.

10 "The State may ratify the Treaty on Stability, Coordination and Governance in the Economic and Monetary Union done at Brussels on the 2nd day of March 2012. No provision of this Constitution invalidates laws enacted, acts done or measures adopted by the State that are necessitated by the obligations of the State under that Treaty or prevents laws enacted, acts done or measures adopted by bodies competent under that Treaty from having the force of law in the State."

Not sure which the "bodies competent" are, but it drives a coach and horse through the Constitution.

Harmless lot by the look of their website. They could dress an entire gaeltacht in aran jumpers with the wool from their thinking.

Is the constitutional convention stacked with nominations from the political parties? A third of the convention I believe?

Another fraud perpetrated by the political class in Ireland. If the constitutional convention stood any chance of delivering change it wouldn't be taking place at all.

First item on my convention would be to sweep away the party political system. Into the river with it and all who sail in it.
Think National. Act Local. Oh- and superstition is just the dark matter of human history.

    Actually it looks quite good.

I wonder is it in any way related to the People's Movement? I suspect it is.
