Vincent explains - Why I think O'Brien is not a fit person to control INM -
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/...322198397.htmlAlthough in my reply to Denis O’Brien’s first letter to me, I made specific reference to the treatment of Sam Smyth and cited this as a reason why Denis O’Brien should not be allowed control INM, he made no response to this in his replying letter.
Denis O’Brien has said he does not control INM. However, given his interference in editorial matters in INM, in contradiction of the principles he himself has enunciated, even aside from the findings of the Moriarty tribunal against him, I do not believe Denis O’Brien is a fit person to be allowed control the country’s second most powerful media enterprise.
Thomas Jefferson : Banking Establishments are More Dangerous to our Liberties than Standing Armies.
One of the reasons I set up this site was the political agenda-setting by media owned by people like O'Reilly and O'Brien.
O'Brien may be more overt, but the spectrum of views published by their newspapers and radio stations is extremely narrow.
The internet is obviously much more open to a wide variety of views.
Does nobody remember that woman on VB who said 'Im a journalist on an average wage and cannot afford to stand up to corporates'. The evening herald writer. If Irish journlaists want to get anywhere they'd have to head abroad or find certain 'niche' sites like the journal or donegal daily. Broadsheet.ie is a good one
The broadsheet.ie piece that Vincent Browne refers to is here:
http://www.broadsheet.ie/2012/04/27/...king-for-this/Leslie Buckley (right) was appointed as Denis O’Brien’s representative to the board of Independent News and Media (INM) in 2009.
The following correspondence took place during the final stages of the Moriarty Tribunal. Journalist Sam Smyth was covering proceedings for The Irish Independent. Gavin O’Reilly (left) was CEO of INM at the time.
Add anglo to the mix

So Osborne got the heaveho from O'Brien because he wouldn't intervene in Editorial decisions on his behalf. And the authority claims that there is no issue here?
One has to agree with the conclusion of Namawinelake:
The nine members of the Authority are Bob Collins (Chairperson), Larry Bass, Paula Downey, Professor Colum Kenny, Michelle Mc Shortall, Dr Maria Moloney, Michael Moriarty, Siobhán Ní Ghadhra and John Waters.
It is high time that the Authority was summoned before an Oireachtas committee – presumably the Joint Committee on Transport and Communications – to justify itself.
A time between ashes and roses is coming
When everything shall be extinguished
When everything shall begin
Would love to see O'Reilly's phone log to Talbot Street over the years lest we forget
Yeah, still though. At the moment we have Quinn, Anglo, O'Brien, INM, this gov and the last all engaged a protected battle. Still a lot of knifing in the back to go and there is bound to be collateral damage for someone which can only be a good thing for us.
