Insert your choice of massive erection allusions..
A Canadian sculptor is currently working on a proposal to erect a 100 foot bronze statue of St Patrick on the summit of Croagh Patrick. Sponsorship for the project has been secured, and the idea is that it will be bequeathed to the people of Ireland from the people of the USA. However, Mayo County Council and local groups who have vested interests in Croagh Patrick were unaware of the plans when contacted by The Mayo News, and the idea looks certain to attract criticism and controversy, given the nature of the proposal and the precedent set in the past by other plans which involved development on the holy mountain

Sounds a bit premature to me.

Its a disgrace! If some Canadian eejit wants to erect such an obscene monstrosity he should put it on Canada biggest mountain.

All it is is a self promoting publicity scam the man should be barred from entering Ireland - ever..

Can't quite see it coming to pass, somehow. Project sounds like it's gone off half-cocked.

It would make a great target. One symbol followed shortly by another more relevant one. What starts out as a 100 foot monument to mental slavery might well end up a full stop made out of rubble. I hope they spend millions on it in Carrera marble.
Think National. Act Local. Oh- and superstition is just the dark matter of human history.

Toxic trucker Joe McNamara might be the guy to talk to. Someone who can erect an Achill Island stonehenge over a long weekend shouldn't be too challenged with this kind of project.
