The robin is feeding its young now. It was funny, they were all doing the open mouth thing and then they all fell down simultaneously. Well, I thought it was funny anyway...

Couldn't see, I assume a worm or two. She's sitting on them now, gone a bit dull, so back to watching Goodfellas...

Facinating to watch - something compels you to keep watching. Robins and their babies will continue in this way long after we, and all our concerns, are gone.

I can't see the live stream, but I can see a robin's nest from out of my window. Its tucked under an overhang of the roof and its unoccupied. Male robins, I'm told by a twitcher friend, make more than one nest before settling the deal with the female, and as part of the courting process he takes her about the place to check out the different nests he's made before she picks one.

The rest of them are left vacant. I'm looking out at the robin equivalent of a ghost estate.

The National Avian Management Agency will take it over.

I know, it's way cute. Amazing at the same time that school kids could rig one of these setups: do we have projects like these in Irish schools? We should.

Iceland used to have a 'puffin cam' web site where users could get 30 seconds control (or longer if no one else was wanted it) of a camera set up in the middle of a puffin nesting colony. Users could turn the camera to particular areas of interest and zoom right in to interesting bits.

Cool Re: Nestwatch 2010 - Robin and Bluetit Nests - Live Streaming

Lots of activity this morn. Four chicks vie for squirming grubs, the mother clucks to waken a triumvirate of yin yang yawning yellow parallelograms; asymmetry in symmetry.
