Edward Hopper was born on this date in New York state and died on May 15, 1967. He was a prominent American realist painter and printmaker. While he was most popularly known for his oil paintings, he was equally proficient as a watercolorist and printmaker in etching.


The best-known of Hopper's paintings, Nighthawks (1942), is one of his paintings of groups. It shows customers sitting at the counter of an all-night diner. Members of Political World who stay up late at night are reminded by this painting that they are in plenty of company.
