    Default Ibec being bastards thread

    This

Reorganise SOLAS and the new local education and training boards to reflect business needs

The creation of SOLAS and the new local education and training boards presents a significant opportunity to redefine further education and training.

    [..]

we must have as we move towards a sustainable vision of a high-skills, high employment, high-productivity nation. This will only happen if the business perspective is reflected in the new national and local structures.

The Department of Social Protection should explore contracting with the private sector as a means of complementing its own resources in areas such as job matching and job placement. It should also expedite its plans to introduce a single working age social welfare payment that maintains the incentive to work.

Was listening to some twit representing IBEC was speaking on radio after Pro. Toal's report was rather bad timing report was published, I nearly threw the radio out the window. I meant to email him and to give him a piece of my mind but in my current stance of not arguing with idiots I didn't bother.
Take everything IBEC and IMSE says with a shot of whiskey.

In a previous life I was a shop Steward and was involved in the labor commission with negotiations. Management came armed with an ibec negotiator and we had our union branch sec.
I wont bore you with the details but the ibec guy was about as useless as a tit on a bull. I remember one contribution from him when management wanted "responsibility" inserted in an agreement and I wanted "job" or even "duty". Ibec man suggested "lets insert responsibility AND duty". How do these people get such jobs?

i don't see what good a Retail Card for CB would do.

The people that save it currently will continue.
The people that spend it locally will continue to do so.

Mind you, I sense a wonderful opportunity for large supermarkets etc to 'partner' with the dept with this.
    Tesco vs Murphys Greengrocers
Tesco vs the citizen's right to spend their own money as they deem fit.

Wasn't that Centra drink promotion a stroke of luck. If it hadn't happened we'd be left thinking most CB recipients spend that money on general household expenses.

Neo-liberal theory has it that the state should not interfere in the market. Just as the state "cannot" create jobs, why should the state "protect" jobs? The is the function of the free market.

Or are we to believe now that the state has a role in protecting jobs in the private sector, yet should accept all manner of castigation from the likes of IBEC when jobs are created in the public service?

Put another way, is it simply an extention of the "privatise profits, socialise losses" BS that the numpties who espouse this neo-liberal nonsense, primarily in the wretched banks, have successfully foisted on our spineless politicians over the last 4 years.

High taxes and high welfare benefits are not part of neo-liberal theory, if country is rotten by socialism, then make sure that at least people will get something back for thay pay in income tax even if it contradict left wing policies

The spineless politicians reference was to demonstrate that the previous government caved in to public sector unions on disasters like benchmarking and pumping up welfare benefits while showed themselves utterly incapable of facing down the banks when the crunch came and went along with the "privatise profits, socialise losses" BS.

They refused to govern properly in not facing down both vested interests and simply helped themselve to a rich smorgasbord of unvouched expenses, ridiculously inflated salaries and unsustainable pensions.

They deserve jail, each and every one of them.
