The article was posted on the openDemocracy website, founded and funded by Soros, I believe.

And the HBSC leaks also came via the ICIJ, which has openDemocracy / Soros links. The ICIJ is heavily funded by US agencies including that old classic the Ford Foundation. It is libertarian and anti-left in orientation.

What the agenda is I don't know, but when so much money is being spent , there has to be one.

Right. Well, before it became 'fashionable' to bash HSBC there was a whistleblower called Nicholas Wilson reporting all kinds of murky dealings allegedly implicating them, who, according to his tweets on Twitter (and I don't disbelieve him) lives in near-penury and is not getting any benefit from all this money that, according to your theory, someone is spending on investigating HSBC.

His blog is here, for anyone interested: http://nicholaswilson.com/

Peter Oborne is really going to lose his **** when he reads the other 349,476,965,236 articles detailing finance's control of the media.

I have the utmost respect for people like Nicholas Wilson who try to do the right thing and to expose the illegal activities of the banks for whom they worked. Almost without exception, they pay a terrible price.

I don't know if the ICIJ is giving him any support. He has stuck up for "sub prime" customers who were ripped off. They are not as "sexy" as people who hold Swiss bank accounts perhaps.

The ICIJ as an outfit is intriguing. It appears to have very substantial resources, in an era in which investigative journalism has been cut to the bone, and is going after a range of targets. I would assume its agenda is set/approved by US government aims, given its funding sources.

Soros was the main man who overtly worked to incite "colour revolutions" some of which installed pretty unsavoury new governments in the former Soviet Union states.

Maybe the US just wants to crack open Swiss banking to prevent movements of cash being made out of their sight and control, or as a matter of financial competition.

Anyone got any better ideas ?

Apart from the fact that Soros has probably his own bank for tax avoidance, I'm confused as well.

Wouldn't be surprised if some of the Jersey/Guernsey sourced lodgements are also ultimately Irish in origin so possibly that graphic understates the extent to which Ireland punches above its weight in terms of hiding funds from the taxman.

    Telegraph

We will take no lectures about journalism from the likes of the BBC, the Guardian or the Times. Those media outlets that are this week sniping about our coverage of HSBC were similarly dismissive in 2009 when we began to reveal details of MPs’ expenses claims, a fact that speaks volumes about their judgment and partiality.

Unlike the BBC, we receive no support from taxpayers. Unlike the Guardian, we are not cushioned from commercial reality by a generously-endowed charitable trust. Unlike the Times, we receive no subsidy from tabloid stablemates. Unlike all three of those, we must generate a profit in order to remain in business and provide our readers with the world-class journalism they expect and deserve
    Guardian

"the owners of the Daily Telegraph secured a £250m loan from HSBC for a struggling corner of their business empire shortly before the newspaper’s reporters were allegedly “discouraged” from running articles critical of the bank, the Guardian has learned."

How come HSBC is front page news pretty much everywhere except Ireland? And how come the media in the rest of the world are naming HSBC Swiss account holders and the Irish media isn't?
John Magnier's 10 Swiss HSBC accounts would surely fill a few paragraphs, for instance

Ha! Well, probably for the reason a whipped dog becomes scared of its master, and the libel/slander law is a tool of the wealthy.

The Shah of Iran was deposed on 11/02/1979.

Is it merely coincidental that heroin flooded into working class areas of Dublin, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Liverpool just weeks afterwards?
