Just a reminder. Michael Geoghegan, former chief executive of HSBC, was appointed to the NAMA advisory board by Noonan in December 2011.
David Hodgkinson, AIB chairman, was CEO of HSBC until the end of 2008, and was appointed to AIB by Lenihan in October 2010.

Richard Murphy had this story years ago. His blog yesterday adds more, the uk civil servant who negotiated a 2012 deal with Switzerland to absolve everybody and their brother went to work for HSBC. He also points out that the former boss of HSBC is an advisor to the Arch of Canterbury on training future reverends..... As Murphy says, you couldn't make it up.

PAC asking Revenue why so little retrieved

THE Dáil spending watchdog is to seek an urgent report from the Revenue Commissioners on its handling of the HSBC tax dodging affair.

Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman John McGuinness said there was concern that only €4.55m had been recouped by Revenue when some €3.1bn in Irish-linked deposits were held by the bank's Swiss operation.

How come UK and French media outlets are naming HSBC Swiss account holders but Irish ones aren't?

You could get the impression that someone is telling porkies here

France has cast doubt on claims by a Conservative minister and tax office boss Lin Homer that the UK was refused permission to use the leaked HSBC files to pursue financial criminals through the courts. When challenged about the British government’s failure to take action against the bank or criminal clients, Homer told parliament the UK’s hands were tied by treaties with France, which restricted use of the HSBC data to pursuing tax evaders.

She said HMRC had only been given permission by the French on Monday to take on more serious cases such as money laundering. Her claims were repeated by the Tory Treasury minister David Gauke to the Commons on Monday.

But France’s finance minister Michel Sapin has rejected the British version of events.
In an interview with Le Monde, published on Friday, he said: “I have not understood the comments made by the British authorities. The data on HSBC was transmitted to them in 2010, in the framework of the bilateral conventions that bind us. Nothing has been said to them since. These conventions do restrict the use of the information to tax purposes.
“But if the British tax office wants to bring court cases, it is entitled to do so. The rest is a matter of judicial co-operation.

    Some integrity left at least

The Daily Telegraph's chief political commentator Peter Oborne has resigned from the British newspaper, leaving behind a blistering attack on his former employer in a post on the Open Democracy website.

In it, Oborne says the newspaper's coverage (or lack of it) on HSBC is a "fraud on readers," accusing The Daily Telegraph of refusing to cover major disparaging stories about the bank because it is a key advertiser.

Probably the most significant blow to the reputation of the Telegraph group in its history. (HSBC's reputation was already in the gutter, let's face it.) Previous owner Conrad Black came a cropper on dodgy expense claims but was generally regarded as a non-interfering proprietor.

Interesting, but what is George Soros et al up to in all this ?
