Meet Dr.James Reilly LANDLORD of Lusk shopping centre
Some questions for the Minister -
How many of the leases in Lusk Shopping centre are UORRs?
Is Dr. Reilly charging tenants above market rent.
Have tenants been granted any real rent reductions?
Is there a conflict of interest for Dr. Reilly in respect of the government reneging on banning of upward only rent reviews in current leases?
How many other cabinet members or family members are commercial landlords? The Government is riddled with vested interests Dr. Reilly should resign , he is clearly conflicted.

HEALTH Minister James Reilly and his wife are hiring out their stately home for weddings and christenings while also receiving tax breaks for maintaining it.

And last night, it emerged that Finance Minister Michael Noonan has no immediate plans to change the tax relief for owners of historic mansions.

Dublin North TD Mr Reilly and his wife, Dorothy, who own Laughton House in Moneygall, Co Offaly, are among the wealthy business people who take advantage of the tax break to maintain their residences.

The relief is given to help cover maintenance and restoration costs for significant buildings and gardens. It was intended to help owners meet costs, remain in the houses and prevent them becoming derelict.

Promising to interfere in existing UO leases was something that shouldn't have been promised. Senior politicians should have known that they couldn't pass such legislation without exposing the state to ruinous compensation liability.

Reilly mentioned this in the Dail in june, but failed to mention money had not changed hands. how can he have a quarter share of something he has not paid for?

Accordingly I have stated in the Register that I have a quarter share interest in a property in Tipperary which houses the Green Hills Nursing Home. The nursing home business itself is run by a separate company in which I have no involvement. As has been frequently reported in the media already, the issue of the ownership of the wider property was the subject of a court case which ended in agreement earlier this year. My interest in the property has been transferred into a blind trust and it is the intention for that interest to be divested as soon as is practicable.

I wonder why Aodhan O Riordan has not taken to the airwaves over this?

He was very quick off the mark and very constant in his condemnation of Mick Wallace.

The good Dr. will address the Dail today

The debt arises from his purchase with a group of investors of a nursing home in Carrick-on-Suir, Co Tipperary. The Minister and four other investors, including former Fine Gael county councillor Anne Devitt, have failed to comply with a High Court order to repay the money to other investors.

Dr Reilly is expected to tell the Dáil this evening the first he learned of his appearance in Stubbs Gazette, and of a judgment registered against him last month, was on Monday night as he arrived in Cyprus on EU business.
If he knew there was a Court decision made earlier this year, and he had not paid his portion, how is this unexpected?

Or are his financial resources so vast that he would not notice a few hundred grand leave one of his accounts?

    The group of 5

Dr James Reilly: The Health Minister is expected to make a statement on the matter today.

Ciaran Flanagan: From Grattan Court, Inchicore Terrace South, Dublin 8.

Anne Devitt: The councillor from Lispopple, Swords, Co Dublin, who resigned from Fine Gael after the Mahon Tribunal report stated that she had behaved "inappropriately" in taking on a role in the Cargobridge planning application process from 1994 to 1997.
    The other 8

Michele Mellotte Solicitor, Co Offaly. She said that the group didn't know why the money hadn't been paid but said she assumed the other side were "getting their house in order". She said the matter was still under discussion.

Phew all is well the Minister for Health had contact with SIPO regarding his investment -

Minister for Health James Reilly had consultations with the Standards in Public Office Commission (SIPO) in respect of his role as one of five investors in a nursing home.
    Hmmm says Michael Martin -

Micheál Martin has said it is a serious issue for a Cabinet minister not to be in compliance with a High Court order.
Mr Martin said he believed there had been a muddying of the water in relation to the revelation that the Standards in Public Office Commission advised the Minister.
He said SIPO cannot give guidance in terms of compliance with a High Court order.

I wonder where Martin is reading that from and how long he has had a copy of it. Because FF certainly didn't give a monkey's about standards in public office when they were in power.
So I guess this is all new to him.

    Exactly.

It also highlights how good FG are at jumping on the FF bandwagon It would seem FF educated FG very well in the time FG spent on the opposition benches.

Between Micheál on RTE and Kelleher on Newstalk it seems Fianna Fáil are happy enough to let Reilly sweat but have zero intention of nudging him out the plank.

Freshman Cowen has phoned to suggest the sovereign take on Reilly's debt.

Noonan to take it up with Rehn later
