Hmmm it seems there was no "blind trust" - Reilly removes 'unintended error' from TDs' register -

However, in his Dáil statement on Wednesday night, Dr Reilly said he had given power of attorney to an independent solicitor to deal with his interest in the home. After Opposition parties pointed out the contradiction, he was forced to make the correction.

The Minister’s spokesman also confirmed last night that he initially proposed to Sipo that his interest be transferred to a blind trust controlled by his brother.

He said Dr Reilly, after deciding to set aside his interest while in office, had put forward a number of names including one of his brothers. He claimed this proposal was acceptable to the commission but did not proceed because Bank of Ireland would not accept it.

A blind trust controlled by his brother was acceptable to SIPO? Well, most people at this stage know that SIPO is a joke after their handling of Lowry, Callely and Ned O'Keefe

    On the Swords investment:
The Minister’s spokesman declined to say yesterday whether Dr Reilly owed money on a separate development to build a primary care centre near Dublin Airport. He said that after the general election was called last year, the Minister instructed his solicitor not to proceed with his interest in the development at Nevinstown, near Swords, now up for sale.
Completely disingenous. It was clear a year earlier that FG were going to be in government and that Reilly was going to be the Health Minister.
He could have dealt with it much earlier.
So how much is himself and the two Swords doctors on the hook for now on this failed investment?

Anne Devitt !!! Words fail me.

    From a Fine Gael report:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/...uiry/index.htm

    http://www.independent.ie/national-n...er-370917.html

    ANNE DEVITT

Anne Devitt represented the Swords electoral area during the entire of the relevant period.

Ms. Devitt outspokenly volunteered that when it came to rezoning it was not necessary for anyone to buy her vote as she was, and is, unapologetically in favour of re-zoning on the North and Western sides of Dublin. She says that her arguments in favour of this stance were openly stated by her on the floor of the Council Chamber and during election campaigns. Her philosophy was that what was needed on the North and West of Dublin was jobs and houses (this was particularly so in the Swords area). Her stated view was that the only way to achieve this aim was by rezoning land for residential and industrial purposes.

Because of her support for a large number of re-zoning and material contravention motions, the Committee questioned her specifically about payments from all the persons or bodies who had been named by other persons interviewed as persons who had made payments. The Committee also specifically questioned her about other named persons or companies.

She stated that in 1991 Frank Dunlop paid for an election leaflet, which had a value of between £200 - £400.

She denied that she had received any other payment from any builder, developer or their agent.

Both Frank Dunlop and Michael Bailey supported constituency fund-raising events such as the Swords lunch and a golf classic. Michael Bailey also made premises available to Fine Gael as its election H.Q. in 1992. These matters have already been disclosed by Fine Gael to the Flood Tribunal.

Ms. Devitt unequivocally committed herself to the following propositions -

She was never in receipt of any ‘payment’ from anybody other than genuine political contributions.
All such payments were lodged to the Bank of Ireland, James’ Gate to an account entitled the Fine Gael No. 2 Account. This account was operated by Tom Gray.
No such payments were lodged to any other account over which she had any central control or in which she has any beneficial interest.
The Bank of Ireland account, although entitled Fine Gael No. 2 account, was used exclusively for the benefit of Ms. Devitt. Its existence would not have been known to the officers of the Constituency. It was opened in or about 1990. Ms. Devitt states that lodgements made to that account would have been reasonably substantial. She was prepared for the Committee to inspect the records of the account provided it did not seek to trace the identity of the persons whose cheques were lodged to it. The reason advanced for this contention was her desire to protect the identity of persons who would then be ‘dragged into this witch-hunt’

The Committee was of the view that it would not accept any condition placed upon the use of the information given to it. It has not therefore looked at the records of this account.

Ms Devitt indicated that she has refused to allow the Flood Tribunal to inspect her personal accounts.

In the absence of any powers enabling the Committe to compel disclosures of bank accounts, records etc., it is impossible for the Committee to come to a definitive conclusion in respect of Anne Devitt.
    and

From The Irish Independent (March 2006):

“Joe Moran, who owns house building firm Manor Park Homes, said he gave the money to Fingal Co Councillor Anne Devitt for providing professional advice and legal services….
Cllr Devitt, the then leader of the Fine Gael group on the council, was paid the sum in 2002 by Rayband Ltd – the company that owns the 18.5 acre site in Lissenhall near Swords [close to the Airside site]. The Mahon tribunal was told Cllr Devitt was also a member of the then Eastern Health Board (EHB) which owned land adjoining Mr Moran’s landlocked site.
Mr Moran said his company got agreement to go through the EHB lands provided they built certain facilities – a new ambulance centre and day patient care unit. Cllr Devitt was quite helpful in that negotiation and was committed to improving health board facilities, he added.

Mr Moran’s site is now proposed as the location for the new national children’s hospital.

She resigned from Fine Gael as an enquiry was threatened, but is still a Councillor.

    Should someone call the Gardaí?

I really did laugh out loud when I read this letter in the IT.

"Sir, – It is at times like this that you would miss the PDs and the Greens. They would have held their senior coalition partners to account.

Still, it’s nice to see that Pat Rabbitte has grown up, and is sparing us his faux outrage on this occasion. – Yours, etc,"

You have got to be joking. All doctors are convinced that they can fix any health system if only someone would put them in charge. Leo is a GP by training. QED.

Also, the whole FF going easy on a Snafu-gate that could have been one of their own?? Forget it. The more middle class and urban "elites" in this country have always had the probably erroneous idea that FG are less corrupt than FF. This bias is also a feature of the media, meaning that your standard FF loyalist will jump on a whiff of sh!t from the FG side of the house faster than a starving vulture on a fresh corpse. I would imagine that where FF leaves off on this front, SF will take over.

Regardless, the message is probably less high moral indignation than " it's seriously not just us"

    Sigh

Oh well, unlike the Iraq war, I guess no-one has been deliberately killed by all this, yet.

Finally, I suffered under the NHS for five plus years. After years of war expenses, it is in a worse state than our own Heath service. At least, where I used to live, anyway

Some HSE staff who were overpaid between 1994 and 2010 are taking their lead from the minister when it comes to paying up.

The High Court will be thrilled to hear that Reilly intends to comply with its order 'in the coming months'.

The Sheriff could soon be on his way to seize Reilly's goods if the Doc doesn't settle his debts.

Terrible quandary for the poor Occupy crowd - Who to support, the bailiff or the minister?

Imagine the howls from Enda, Eamo, Joan and Shatter if a FFer or SFer was in the same situation

We can now add a judge to TD's and Ministers in the list of those who choose which laws they have to obey

A JUDGE has been fined €600 after pleading guilty to failing to provide a sample of his breath at the request of a garda.
