The most ridiculous thing though is how to oppose further integration, or certain past/present measures by the EU is to be anti europe. It's such a ridiculous label. You cannot be anti asia but you can be anti europe. If you oppose the further centralisation of decision making and the removal further still of basic freedoms/rights for citizens, be they rights of information, economic rights etc. you are seen as a nationalist. This was something I encountered on the rare occasion a German friend might bring up politics. Curiously only Germans ever told me I was being 'nationalist'(an understandable phobia of their's). 2 very good German friends study Journalism and European Governance. I do wonder why some of these people study 'european and international governance'. Do they want to govern others? In my experience, Austrians seem to be far better at weighing up the situation and less judgemental and begrudging of others opinions. Germans are nice people, but they're not stupid and they're out for themselves.
I'm all for ties with other countries but my time in 'europe' over the last year only convinced me further of the need to exit the eu. Norway and Iceland are doing alright. Ireland needs to stand on its own two feet if we ever want to stop being a banana republic/colony of brussels.
