Thread: Okay, I lied about my age ;)

Default Okay, I lied about my age ;)

    Hi All.............

This is my first go. Glad to be here. Thanks for the use of the Hall !

Just between ourselves, I was not really born in 1923 - more 1876 - and being a bit iffy about being asked my age as an opening question on the register page, I lied through me teeth

I hope nowan else here ever, ever, ever did that, or anything like it

I am horribly ashamed and feel more than guilt ridden over this.

    Or maybe not.

    Cheers

    Welcome Nightflight
It gets to a stage for everybody where lying about your age is not technically lying.
    It's fibbing

    Welcome Nightflight.

To reduce the risk of ID theft I would never give my true DOB on websites. Any random date that gives an age over 18 will work.

I suggest 13 year olds should not be on this board unless they are specially flagged as being that age

Never mind the age, it's all in the mind anyway. Take of the pantoflas, sit yourself down, have some tsikoudia, a slice of melon and a dollop of thyme flavoured honey. Welcome and greeting from sunny Greece

I understand and like everything about your post Ephilant (even the pantoflas - pantoufles in French;slippers or something close) except for Tsidoukia. Are you telling me there is some exotic alcohol that I have missed on my European travels that is especially favoured among the, ahem, more mature citizens?

I watched Wimbledon today and thought of Pimms. That's all, I just thought of it

Dyslexia strikes again, or maybe I had too much already... Tsikoudia.Say it 100 times. Tsikoudia, tsikoudia. It's commonly referred to as raki, but that is only the Turkish wannabe..
Tsikoudia is doubly distilled wine. Mostly grape, but a proper tsikoudia has a hint of peach and/or plum and/or pomegranate in it as well. It has its air of secrecy about it, of course. Every village would have it's own version, with its own respected and invariably old and secretive brewer, preferably unlicensed. You can of course buy the legal, bottled stuff, but that's for tourists.
It is very powerful stuff, preferably consumed in sitting position as it has the habbit of pulling the legs from underneath you at the most inconvenient and embarrasing moments. And even then, it invariably strikes when you try to get up, no other time. Luckily nobody takes too much notice, because we all know it will strike again, and it could of course be ourselves next time. In fact, it certainly will be ourselves, we just don't know the strike-sequence. Here we mix a spoon of thyme flavoured local honey in with it. Why Thyme flavoured? Because the stuff grows everywhere, and the bees like it. It gives the drink a really mysterious hint of a god-like gift. Dyonisos is said to have personally blessed tsikoudia, and knowing him, he had copious samplings of it as well.
Did you really miss it, or just can't remember

Seems a bit of honey would be grand in raki too... usually a scotch man but went along to some shindig in the hills on Crete once and we were greeted with a tray of raki. Everyone seemed to be avoiding it and I thought we might seem to be offending if we didn't partake so made a bit of a tour of the tray myself. Not bad at all and the old boy seemed to be pleased- had a distinct look of bandit about him so thought it best to sacrifice to Dionysius and get it over with.

No bad effects either afterwards- fiery stuff but probably the double distiling helped. Welcome nighflight, btw.
