Over the course of 48 hours in June of last year, members of an Oireachtas committee received the same phone call from one of the most powerful people in Irish sport.

John Delaney, the Chief Executive of the FAI, was under intense pressure after it emerged that his organisation had accepted a ¤5m interest-free loan from Fifa as compensation for the Thierry Henry handball incident.

Members of the Oireachtas sports committee quite rightly sought to give Delaney a grilling over the payment - as is their responsibility and duty as watchdogs.

However, Delaney's decision to personally contact TDs and senators paid off. After receiving advice from officials, the committee decided against inviting him in at all.

Fine Gael TD Brendan Griffin, who has since been appointed committee chairman, said the U-turn set a "dangerous precedent" in Irish politics.

Of course, the latest storm surrounding the alleged illegal sale of tickets has nothing to do with John Delaney. Instead, it is a scandal that has engulfed Delaney's pal, Olympic Council of Ireland (OCI) boss Pat Hickey.

But similar to the Fifa payment controversy, we have found ourselves in a sorry scenario in which nobody seems to be truly accountable to the public.

Del Boy is a true dictator, holds a Press Conference but only answers questions he wants to.

He only ever was a book-keeper in a small cash n carry business and relies on others to sort out FAI financing such as Dermot Desmond and Denis O'Brien employees had to re-negotiate FAI's borrowings on the Stadium, without that one flicker of light he would be gone.

True value approx 40k per annum + expenses but get someone else to do the books.

He totally messed up sale of long term tickets and there still is a court case pending.

His methods very close to the disgraced Pat Hickey, his idol.

"Can we move on from that? What else have you got for me?"

"This was a financial review where there was now an eagerness to move on from discussion of the finances".

Every single time, Del Boy gives out a page summary on the finances but will not go into detail or answer direct questions, everyone has to believe him or simply fck off.

"He was asked how he would react if the board of another organisation sent out a press release flagging an initiative that would be paid for from the FAI's coffers. That query was batted away".

Shows the contempt he holds for other Orgs that will not bend to his rules, he took it upon himself to committ 150k of PFAI funds, which everybody knows they probably do not have.

Very good article, pays little heed to Del Boy's fairytales.

"Doubtless the loyalists packed into the Rochestown Park Hotel in Cork on August 18 for the annual general meeting won’t dare to interrupt the party line".

Sums up Del Boy and his ways, the people who can get rid of him are the very ones who fear him and will not challenge and just in case Del Boy keeps his contract topped up in case he has to make a break for the border.

So the PFAI disagree with Del Boy and forces him to change his mind, his bully boy tactics for once, fail.
