    The Shinners Bridge...

It goes somewhere but not really anywhere and its built according to the most popular plans after a vote

As no 'celebrity' died yesterday and Katie Taylor is like sooo last week, today's brilliant suggestion is to name it for Gay Byrne.

Another day, another step closer to Dustin.

In light of the new Ireland - England solidarity, we could call it the Lizzy Windsor

Naming it after a living person is high risk. So many things could go very wrong.

Will Monday bring calls for Maureen Toal to get the spot?

Charlie Bird might even get a look in.

Why? Surely you are not suggesting naming this after one of the worst and most compromised politicians in the history of the state??

The letters page of the IT has a call for the bridge to be named for Tony Gregory. The writer is Gregory's brother.

No-one would criticise brotherly love but it's to be hoped that the authorities won't honour the archetype of parish pump independent TD.

Call it the Charles Haughey bridge.

Charge Dubs a toll to cross it (non Dubs go free) to remind them to be careful who they vote for.

And put gargoyles of Ray Burke on one end and Liam Lawlor on the other.
