That was a fun match to watch. Anyone also seen the Monty Python version? Archimedes is a great striker. Greece wins that one 😉

France were truly dreadful against Spain who did not really have to break sweat to reach the semi-final. Malouda^s failure to track back for the opening goal was astonishing.

Well I can just say thanks to the Greek fans on Friday and the Spanish fans last night I am just recovering. I got pints bought for me left right and centre Friday night which resulted in me being fairly fairly messy!Last night I went to a thing called a (and I'll type it phonetically) "hamonara" with loads of wine cheese and jamon and chorizo! They know how to party!

Spain did very well and deserved to go through. Greece had some luck on their side on Friday but did well with the team they had. It could have been a bigger score but they can hold their heads up high. I was nearly gonna cry when the equalised the emotion was so raw in the pub with the fans! Electric stuff....

Now just to dig out my Italy jersey

England were second best all night against a profligate Italian team who should have been out of sight at half time. As it was, they held on for 2 hours only to lose on penalties with Ashley Cole missing the final penalty for England.

    Pirlo's penalty was exquisite.

Justice was done and the better team by far won

Same old story for England. Pirlo had a great game. If anyone deserved to score his penalty, it was him. And what a cheeky penalty!

Pirlo had a great game and created a lot of chances which Balotelli and Cassano were unable to convert. He was by a country mile the best player on the field and his technical skill, his vision and his ability to pass the ball 40 yards with unerring accuracy was a joy to watch. If his team mates were not so profligate in front of goal, Italy would have been comfortably through within 90 minutes.

England toiled hard and rode their luck but in the end, the better team won and Italy deserved to go through. It may be the last time we see Andrea Pirlo in a major championship and, given that they play Germany, Thursday may be his last major international appearance. He will be missed but the manner in which he converted his penalty will live long in the memory. The coolest man in Kiev last night!

FAI President John Delaney on tour:

This clown apparently earns 400,000 Euros a year while football clubs in Ireland go bankrupt. Yes, that is more than the President of the USA earns but John the Clown thinks he is good value for it. And some Irish fans think he is great because he buys them drink like some medieval prince dispensing largesse.

John Delaney probably sums up everything that is wrong about Ireland today.

John Doyle, Canada's premier soccer writer (and Irish I think), sums up England well in the Globe & Mail.

    Ugly, embarrassing England emerged again.

Loved that penalty and adequately summed up how England were. Hart put in a good performance and Rooney made Robbie Keane look like Messi (and that is an incredibly hard thing to do). Cassano played some good shots and Balotelli was like a rabbit in the headlines, he was *****....

That really is embarrassing. Does the FAI get a grant from the government as a sporting organisation? If so, how much is it? Just asking, considering how, as you put it, he gets paid (you erroneously said "earns"; Sam!) over 400,000 per annum.

I guess that is the problem with Signor Balotelli being one of the game's Great Eccentrics - the madness always comes before the method. Still enjoy watching him though, even if he makes you want to pull your own/his hair out...
"It is we the workers who built these palaces and cities here in Spain and in America and everywhere. We, the workers, can build others to take their place. And better ones! We are not in the least afraid of ruins. We are going to inherit the earth; there is not the slightest doubt about that. The bourgeoisie might blast and ruin its own world before it leaves the stage of history. We carry a new world here, in our hearts."

His theatrics are a joy to behold in a way. The lad is skilful but makes himself out to be an arse on the pitch when he starts acting up. He was attempting to say something in one match when he scored before the other players shut him up!

Spain have identified Ronaldo as the key threat for tommorrow nights encounter
