    Default PW Euros 2012 thread

Right so all of our Euro 2012 news in here.

Are Ireland going to get out of the group stage? I am thinking beat Croatia, lost to Spain and draw with Italy. After our less than superb showing against Hungary (0-0) we need to up our game. Journal is asking will we change formation

    Any more thoughts?

Hard to get extatic about our chances with the defensive dependence / breakaway goal approach. Am not denying that with the resources available, the set-up and approach should be anything different - after all its got us this far.
Have a horrible feeling that we will go out undefeated and with a feeling of under-achievement with a fall-back of "did'nt we do well lads?"
Need to party badly so lets hope Roibeárd Ó Catháin and co up front can give us the cure!

I just can't get my enthusiasm up ... haven't read a sports page or watched a sports programme since Man City stole the Premiership.

Are we playing England at anytime .. have they even qualified?

What's the betting the political class will try to hijack it?

I was positive enough about things until I heard Paul McShane was in the squad. I can easily imagine him giving away a goal in a match where we're drawing with minutes to go.

My campaign was distinctly unsuccessful. Due mainly, I think, to missing several transfer and team selection deadlines.

Tell me about it Sam, I forgot about every deadline and then lost my internet for over a week. Frankly, by that stage, it was already too late.

Of course. Big welcome home, even if we get hammered in every game.

Apart from watching the Irish games, there are a couple of matches where there will be a bit of extra bite in them because of the history of the competing teams. Russia v Poland, Russia v Czech Republic and Holland v Germany are ones where the contests are about a bit more than the football. Potentially there are matches where this could be taken further. Spain v Portugal, Russia v Ukraine and Poland v Germany are all possible crunch encounters.

    Not forgetting Ireland v England!
