Indeed he was. A former member of the stickies [official ira] he went on to join the INLA and was a prominent member and Irish Republican Socialist activist.

He was in the firing party at Costello's funeral, Bray in 1977.

Well known, much loved and respected in Derry City and beyond.

Eastwood has come in for much criticism for being at the funeral were a firing party was present. I very much doubt Eastwood, any member of the SDLP or indeed many of those present would have been aware in advance that the IRA would step out that day. Not the kind of thing that's advertised i'm sure you's will appreciate.

As usual, it was the DUP who whipped up the scandal.

I don't know personally how he earned the nickname. I'll ask one of his closer comrades to see if there's a story behind it. I'll let you know.
