You propose a low income waiver, what about middle income earners? These are people who are crippled by mortgages. The time is not right to hit these people with yet another tax, simply because they cannot afford it. What about a waiver for middle income earners also? If you are going to have waivers for both of those struggling groups than you may as well go with Sinn Féin's Wealth Tax as it is far better.

Sinn Féin's basic position is that at this time lower and middle income households cannot afford another tax.
I wasn't proposing anything, I was trying to establish where SF stood on it.

What is most annoying is that Doherty has failed on several occasions to contradict Pat Kenny's assertion that pension pots should be included because public sector pension pots are worth millions and should be included in any wealth tax.

All Doherty had to say was ....... there are no pots for public sector pensions ... they are paid out of current taxes ..... therefore they could never be inclued in any wealth tax.

Kenny put this to Doherty 5 times on several programs and he failed to make this simple point.

Kenny seems to be suggested that the tax should be on the notional value of the notional pot (the capital sum needed to generate the pension)

There are no pots but there are pension payments. And will continue to be.

The present value of future payments could fairly easily be used in assessing wealth.

That wouldn't be as easy as it might seem at first glance. The value of private sector pensions can vary with economic conditions and the competence of fund managers while in the PS they're at the whim of the minister.

Rubbish. If the value of public sector pensions were 'at the whim of the Minister' they'd have been reduced long ago.

Does Biffo think Ministers sit there all day long investing public sector pensions? They are managed and invested in financial instruments the same as private sector pension- only they have an effective 'stop-loss' on those pensions paid for by the taxpayer.

To say that that the 'value' of public sector pensions depends on the whim of a minister is a juvenile attempt at misdirection.

It's great that the frontline starts so late. Only have to watch a bit of the rubbish before #vinb kicks off

I wonder will Hayes talk about his Bertiesque property encouragement

Should be entertaining if Ross has a good go at Pat Farrell.

Think I've seen this show before. At least six or seven times over the last two years.

Plank calls Hayes "Minister" and gets a papal nod from the stage

Suspect the banks know it will be another six seven years before we hit the bottom.
