    Default Apologies to Satoshi Nakamoto

I am the poster formerly known as Satoshi Nakamoto. I have had to change my username from Satoshi Nakamoto due to possible confusion with the inventor of the Bitcoin virtual currency. To be clear, I was never claiming to be the inventor of Bitcoin. I understand the real Satoshi is venerated as a genius in the open source software movement, and Im sorry for any confusion arising.

Think the name was chosen more out of reverence for someone which is admirable Stick around, we may not always agree but diversity is a wonderful thing

An esteemed member of this forum, the “Dearly Depaaated” Zerowedge, starter of this thread, was obliged to change his handle on here from Satoshi Nakamoto to Zerowedge for reasons that are not clear to me, since I was not privy to the clandestine negotiations on the subject. But I did infer from public pronouncements on the matter that some one or entity objected to the use of the name here, as would seem apparent from the opening post above. The two pieces below are not dispositive on the issue, but do they lend credence to the belief that there never was/is any individual named Satoshi Nakamoto. This opens up several interesting questions including at least two relevant to this forum.

1: Could the aforementioned Dearly Dep sue this forum for requiring the name change, and

2: could the forum sue whoever objected to the use of the name on this forum, for false claims or somesuch?
Could this be a get rich quick opportunity?

There is of course the possibility that the whole thing was/is a conspiracy theory which are popular in some quarters.
Paul Ford at Bloomberg Businessweek on the hilarity of Bitcoin The most talked-about currency isn't the Euro or the dollar — in fact, it's not really a currency at all. Invented in 2009, Bitcoin uses a distributed algorithm, not the backing of any government, to generate scarcity and thus value. To Paul Ford, this makes it something of an elaborate joke. "Given that the founder is nowhere to be found, it feels like a hoax, a parody of the global economy," he writes, referring to the reclusive author of Bitcoin's underlying code. "That the technology used to implement it has, so far, shown itself to be impeccable and completely functional, and that it’s actually being exchanged, just makes it a better joke." Bitcoin, he argues, doesn't subvert global capitalism — it embodies it. "Bitcoin isn’t tied to any commodity—besides trust. As a statement on the global economy, Bitcoin is hilarious. As a currency for the disenfranchised and distrustful, it’s as serious as can be."

And yet Nakamoto was a cipher. There was no trace of any coder with that name before the début of bitcoin. He used an e-mail address and Web site that were untraceable. In 2009 and 2010, he wrote hundreds of posts in flawless English, invited other software developers to help him improve the code. Then, in April, 2011, he sent a note to a developer saying that he had “moved on to other things.” He has not been heard from since.
