Property Industry Ireland. Making the same mistake, property is a service not an industry. I notice Michael Noonan addressed this obscure group recently . WHY?

Here is one of their suggestions

"Move from a reactive demand-led strategy to one which is plan-led and pre-demand."
    lol, off with ya

    and this

Keep regulations and codes in relation to fire safety, ventilation, hygiene,
energy efficiency, disabled access etc. outside the planning system.
Im I reading that right that regulations regarding the issues outlined not be subject to planning permission etc?

    On this they say

Since the abolition of the requirement for local building by-law application and approval, and the introduction of the Building Regulations (with self-certification regarding compliance), there has been a ‘creeping’ inclusion of non-planning matters into planning decisions. This has resulted in consequent ‘planning’ compliance issues relating to matters that ought to be determined elsewhere

A Daft.ie press release went out yesterday claiming accommodation shortages and high rent for students.

The NUIG student president today says that some students have been faced with landlords "faking demand to push prices".

Only one story was regurgitated by the countries media

One third of all homes in Dublin are now apartments says CSO.
The daft survey earlier this year showed a big drop in demand for apartments and and value dropping accordingly

There's a school of thought that enjoys much sympathy in the IT that would have us all, apart from farmers and a few yokels to populate Potemkin villages for the edification of tourists from the Fatherland, living 'efficiently' in high-risk apartments in Dublin.

    http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-0...unce-back.html

Lars Frisell thought it would be easy to find an apartment to rent in Dublin, the epicenter of western Europe’s biggest real estate crash, after he moved from Sweden to become chief economist at Ireland’s central bank.

Three months later, he’s still looking, joining the ranks of students, high-tech professionals and frustrated would-be homebuyers competing for space and pushing up rents in the Irish capital.

“You’d think that there’d be so many apartments and so many houses available,”
