The bog cutters don't give a fup about the endangered species the bogs support, never have, never will. They care for one thing and one thing only - MONEY. Forget about cultural tradition, and all the other BS that the hypocrite Ming bang on about, this is about wealthy rural dwellers enriching themselves by scourging land they consider theirs to do with as they see fit.

These people need to be exposed for the selfish chiselers they are.
    +1
They have been shown there is alternative ways for getting their energy.

So what's going on at Bord na Mona? Doesn't sound like a happy family at the moment.
Offaly Fianna Fáil TD Barry Cowen told an Oireachtas Committee that unions at Bord na Móna have circulated a motion of no confidence in the CEO.
The Bord na Móna Chairman Designate, John Horgan, who is appearing before the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Transport and Communications said that he does not accept the motion.
Barry Cowen said that unions at the semi-state company are seeking to have the motion on Gabriel D'Arcy brought before the company's board.

Job losses and part time working affecting around 200 workers were announced in the past few days.

Cowen will be acutely aware that BnM is a significant employer in Offaly.

“If no progress is made we are determined to run candidates in the next Council elections. We will be putting people up against Fine Gael, because they have told lies about this issue since they came into power last year,” said Michael Fitzmaurice of the ITCCA.

This industry has the raven on its shoulder for a number of reasons- it is a fossil fuel and locally those bogs are part of a bigger plan to install windfarms to provide electricity. Worth keeping an eye on that proposal for windfarms to supply power to the UK- there are a few actors on the Irish scene eyeing opportunities up around that.

I expect a farrago to unfold where it turns out Irish pols and planning agencies have handed away another resource- involving backhanders and very little benefit to the Irish exchequer either.
Think National. Act Local. Oh- and superstition is just the dark matter of human history.

However they are also extremely limited in resources and there is also the environmental issue. Most of our bogs are going to be gone by 2050 if the continued use of them as they are carries on.
