Default Amelia Earhart City of Derry Airport?

Councillors in Derry have voted against a Sinn Féin proposal to change the name of the city's airport in honour of the first woman to succuessfully fly across the Atlantic.

Members of the SDLP, DUP and UUP felt that it was not a good time economically for the change which would recall the aviator's historic flight which ended in a field outside the city.

Would it be a good idea?

If not, who should it be named after, Buddy Holly? Lynyrd Skynyrd?

Quite the dame. A lot easier on the eye than the ear.
I'd give her everything she desired.

(BTW you're fierce folk for the name squabbling up there)

    Back off, stater!

Now that you mention it, even calling it City of 'Derry' was a row in itself which makes you wonder why the unionists didn't jump at the chance of diluting the fenianry a bit.

Reminding people of someone who died in a plane crash is probably not the most psychologically astute thing to do when naming an airport.

Black humour born of conflict and oppression.
Surely they market it as sort of oral mural.

Surely murals must be on the wall?

I thought the topic was off the wall.

But Baron...I was alluding to means of reaping filthy lucre from the debris of conflict, be that paintings on the wall or the scabrous attitude and colourful language that still graces the lips of the once traumatised natives.

    The oral mural. (Mmmm)

On the subject of colourful natives, where is Mr Cathasaigh?

Haven't seen him for a while.

Don't tell me he's back teaching other colourful natives the meaning of UH AH.

    Stater!
    Indeed.
I'm glad bitter prejudice has not blinded you to the notable absence of the free which once defined us.
    Everything was free.
Had to be. Cos they sold us short on the only aspiration that really mattered... the lust, the longing to couple with the dour and the dysfunctional.

We never got to couple...the bed always felt empty.

And now we are bought as sold state bast**ds

    But sure, dem's the breaks.
