Gavin O'Reilly said to have "come to some sort of agreement' at board meeting.

Interesting. The Phoenix (behind paywall - ba$tards!) today did an article on the imminent O'Brien ouster of the O'Reilly clan & claque from INM - it asserted that if O'Reilly wants to fight the O'Brienite 'hoards' they have enough cash in the locker etc. to mount a serious defence. Their stake in the recently-sold (to Toshiba) Landis & Gyr corporation, the Barryroe prospect off west Cork, and the current high value of HJ Heinz shares means that they should be able to call on serious cash if they want to get into the trenches on the INM boardroom battle. As to who bought the 13m shares, it could be either party. I thought initially that the O'Reillys would cut their losses and go (relatively) quietly. Now, I'm not so sure. This really could be one to watch - the changing of the guard at the helm of the corrupt Oireland Inc. media may not be proceeding to my (and lots of other people's) expectations.

Another interesting question to ask is who sold 13m INM shares today? That would be the other half of the boardroom power struggle story.

Will there be any tits in the Independent now? As opposed to writing for it?

I would say that he is on the side of O Reilly as he was around for long time.

INM readership have gone down a lot and more like of a mixture of tabloid and daily mail. A pro- govt paper with lot of inside info along with the Irish times as well.

If they keep cutting down costs at the rate they are going as don't think they would last long (maybe five years or more) cos O Brien lost something like €500M in the form of shares diluted.

One thing is clear was that O Brien wants to take over & control of the media as to control the leakages re his name and also for the benefit for his most favored political party FG. It reminded me of Silvo (PM for Italy).
