This came to my attention amazingly via my spam folder. A petition site has been sending me loads of rubbish but this story stood out for some reason and a little bit more reading on the topic reveals a very startling tale. Hudson Minerals Inc, a Canadian mining company are alleged to have paid private security firms to move people from their land in their pursuit as usual of mineral wealth . The people moved were Mayan Q'eqchi whom had lived on the land for years before big business rolled in to cause trouble. A local leader of the movement,Adolfo Ich was murdered in broad day light after he heard trouble in the vicinity of the mine near the town. Local Guatemalan army militia also raped local women to terrorise them . A law suit has been filed in Canada against the company but Hudson wants to move the court case to Guatemala and the e mail thinks that if this happens a Guatemalan court will be a lot more lenient.
