Default The Establishment rehabilitation of FF has officialy begun

It looks like the Ard Fheis last weekend was the signal for the rehabilitation of Fianna Fail to begin.
Marian Finucane kicked off on Sunday morning with a sympathetic review of the Ard Fheis and an acknowledgment from her panel that "we need FF"
Brian Hayes got an opinion piece in the Sunday Independent which said that
Whatever can be said of Fianna Fail, the stance taken by Micheal Martin on the fiscal compact has demonstrated an understanding of what's in the interests of Ireland. On this issue, Fianna Fail has put the country first.
Olivia O'Leary reinforced the message on Wednesday's DriveTime with a carefully reasoned explanation of exactly why we need FF.
The reasoning seemed to be that if there's no FF then SF will snap up their votes.

Wonder why media allied with the establishment be very afraid of SF??

FG and FF are of the same coin with similar makeup.FG are the new 'FF'. now -why don't they merge with FF ??

The electorate have nothing to lose to vote for SF given their past to ascertain if they do anything better than FG/Lab govt?

Interesting to see the makeup of FG/FF are now in 50's and may go downwards while at the same time, SF are in the ascendency

The Drivetime Olivia O'Leary podcast doesn't seem to be available yet unless I'm looking in the wrong place.
Astonishing stuff, though. The gist of it was that FF were terrible but shure all is forgiven now and don't we need them because of those awful Sinn Fein people hanging around the place and getting high opinion poll ratings.
Hard to believe that rational people can come out with this kind of stuff after watching Cowen getting a standing ovation at the Ard Fheis.

That's precisely it though Paddy, these people aren't rational, they're terrified of losing the privileges, pensions and positions they've accrued down the year to 'upstarts' like the Shinners and the ULA. Accordingly 'rationality' is the last thing they're concerned with when it comes to attempting to head off threats to their positions. On the other hand it's quite funny to see how this approach has the opposite effect to what it intended, Hayes coming out last week praising the FFeckers merely reinforced in people's minds the fact that FF and FG are two cheeks of the same posterior.

    Depressing

But never forget and certainly never forgive

People will .... over time ...

So keep reminding and telling them

Got it in one. The visceral dislike that RTE has for Sinn Fein and the left is always bubbling just below the surface with Joe Duffy, Marian Finucane and Pat Kenny.
Logically its absurd to think that we need another party of the centre right when that ground has been taken by FG and Labour

Need to factor into that the FF love in factor within RTE aka pro-FFers in the ranks quite apart from any left-right slant ...

FF will never disappear until the likes of this and across all walks of society in a similar vein disappears

It's obvious that the phony differences between FF/FG/LAB are a sham. They've played musical chairs with the rule of the country for decades. Failing to protect the children of the country from the church. Failing to provide us with a functioning legal system that was capable and willing to deal with white collar crime, aided and abetted by a compliant media.

They have no intention of letting anyone spoil the party that they and their cronies have been enjoying at the expense of the people. The insiders simply don't want any outsiders involved in the running of the country, it might break up the self serving coalition of the connected.

It really says something about how rotten the establishment are that they'd welcome FF back. Tough, they've made such a pigs ear out of the country that the shinners are now an unstoppable force. Things are likely to get so bad that a SF Taoiseach is not beyond the bounds of possibility.

It'd serve the establishment right, they haven't a patriotic bone in their bodies. It's not an accident that no one has been held responsible for the corruption in this country, it's the modus operandi of the establishment to hide behind privilege and laws that are designed to protect them. Not that the shinners are necessarily the answer to our problems, but at least they'll shake things up a bit.

When I was a teenager the various cheeks of the FF/PD/FG/Lab arse got 93% of the vote between them.

These days all three combined are on 63% in the polls.

Some progress, much to do. They'll try to keep the illusion that there is some difference between them going for as long as they can, but if those combined numbers start drifting down towards 50% they may go for a merger.

Or FF may decide to remain in business as a spoiler, sweeping up the 15% or so of the demented ultraconservative bead-rattling vote, keeping that sort of politics alive in the Dail and retarding any moves towards Ireland leaving the 17th century.

After all, if you can't be the big dog any more, there's still a certain pleasure in making sure nobody else gets to have fun, and in going out of your way to make everyone else as miserable as possible. It suits the FF mindset.

    Questions:

    Where did E223m go?

FF's friends if so, names please.

    Any link to corporate donations?

I'm surprised that Turkey has slower broadband than us. So It was all hype and any audit and accountability of that money???

Finally, who was the minister at that time??

Sadly, the prospect appears to be exactly that - more people queueing up for expenses and positions.

I think that although the country is in dire straits the best few things now could be 1. an overwhelming no vote in the referendum on the stability pact. 2. The same again til they get the message. Iceland said no twice and that was the end of it. 3. Mass boycotting of all indirect unfair charges such as household tax, septic tank tax etc as well as the RTE tithe of course. 4. Next time there's an election, vote SF or ULA or left independent to maybe get a small bit of social justice and honesty in this otherwise anti social and dishonest 'republic'.

Enough pressure on the left and enough outing of the right(the 3 major parties) could actually leave Ireland in a position where we could start learning from our Icelandic neighbours. Voting no to things just cos you're scared isn't a democracy and its doing what they want.
