According to Goldhawk the US has learned from the attempted extradition of Sean Garland which fizzled out when a High Court judge ruled that the alleged offense had been committed in Ireland and referred the case to the DPP.
This time the FBI have asked Commissioner Martin Callinan to request a prosecution from the DPP. If it doesn't happen, "James C Trainor, special agent in charge of FBI intelligence, will lead the charge into Dublin…..The DPP will decide within 6 weeks if an Irish prosecution will happen"
If not there will be an extradition hearing which could reveal some very interesting stuff about the new Garda Computerised Intelligence System
This system apparently trawls information on people who don't' have a criminal record.
Goldhawk claims that info is being held on up to a million Irish people which has been made possible by McDowell insisting that telecoms providers hold on to all the info provided unintentionally by their customers for five years.
Maybe Im wrong but for an extradition to go through doesnt the crime in the US have to be a similar crime here? Its like the UK refusing to extradite the Duchess of York to Turkey after she uncovered the state of orphanages in Ankara on secret film (filming someone without their knowledge in Turkey is illegal and not in UK if its for surveillance or something similar for investigative purposes I think). Is there a comparable crime here in Ireland to that the Feds want him for?

These boys cannot be sent to the USA for a show trial
    TCD students union must mobilise
    TCD Academic staff must mobilise
Though Prof Jane Ohlmeyer is trying to recruit USA money and students for TCD there must be a total BOYCOTT on the USA at TCD if they try to extradite our boy

I guarantee more trouble than it is worth for the FBI to try and extradite our students on the basis of the USA lacking security on conference calls

TCD and UCG staff and students must be mobilised NO EXTRADITION FOR POLITICAL ACTS
NO EXTRADITION TO US RAPE FACTORY

I can think of some witnesses who can testify to inhumane conditions in US federal facilities who will be willing to testify about their own experiences there

I will get them to testify should the need arise

Given Ms Baciks long involvment with the Irish Rape Crisis Centre, it would make sense for her to strenuously oppose this extradition, on the grounds that this young man will probably be raped while serving a sentence in the american prison gulag.

We know that the Dep of Homeland Security use threats of sexual assault while questioning people at US airports.

Zero can you dig up evidence for that? Reason I ask if you can we fire off a request to Ivana's office and seek to halt his extradition.

    Just came across this

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/10...state_secrets/

There is a law where a trial cannot be brought for this victim as there is a secrecy clause.

Also stats on male rape in prisons is on the rise

    http://www.hrw.org/news/2007/12/15/u...ad-prison-rape

How could we prove it would be a credible threat or am I off the wall here?

Just a reminder of "wide spread hacking" of the Gardai, a little while back.

Goldhawk says it's unlikely O'Cearbhaill will be extradited even if the DPP do not press charges as had been thought. Also looks like the Gardaí have told the Feds that Sabu's evidence is useless in an Irish court.

The Brit has been indicted by a Grand Jury, but no extradition proceedings for now.

    LulzSec-hacker-Ryan-Cleary-indicted-over-attacks-on-television-networks.html
Ryan Cleary, the 20-year-old Briton arrested over attacks on Fox and PBS television networks, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Los Angeles.

Cleary, who is already jailed in the United Kingdom where he faces prosecution over similar charges, is accused of joining other members of LulzSec in harnessing compromised computers, known as a "botnet," to steal confidential information, deface websites or attack servers. He was indicted on Tuesday.
Eimiller said federal authorities would "allow the prosecution to take its course" against Cleary overseas before deciding whether to seek his extradition to the United States. He is next scheduled to be in court in the UK on June 25.

    Quite rightly.

Imo, people who incite other people to commit crimes should themselves be locked up, and agencies who do it should be closed down.

Amazing that they want to lock these kids up when there is talents that could be put to good use. There was an excellent discussion on Newstalk the other day about rehabilitating young offenders instead of placing them in jail. Jails are places where they pick up bad habits and by this , very bad habits . If the government wants to rehabilitate them and make a moral standpoint, show them the error of what they did and perhaps employ them free for six months and then give them a job. People do such things because of their lack of self worth, they need to value themselves and see they have a role in society. Banging a hacker up in jail is an exercise in pure futility. Britian should tell the US to take a long walk off a very short pier.

On a vaguely interconnected note US is seeking the extradition of the owner of TV shack Richard O Dwyer. He is being sought on the basis of linking to tv shows online where people could stream

He never hosted but linked the material, surely this means that he is not at fault?
